Position Summary
Dze L K'ant Friendship Centre Society is seeking two qualified and compassionate Infant/Toddler Early Childhood Educators to join the Friendship Centre Cub House team.
The Infant/Toddler Early Childhood Educator plays a vital role in supporting the healthy growth and development of infants and toddlers within a safe, nurturing, and culturally grounded learning environment. Guided by Indigenous values, the BC Early Learning Framework, and the principles of AHSABC, the IT-ECE creates meaningful experiences that support children's physical, emotional, intellectual, social, and spiritual development.
This position focuses on building strong, trusting relationships with young children and their families while providing responsive care, engaging learning opportunities, and culturally relevant programming that supports each child's unique developmental journey.

Key Responsibilities
Curriculum Planning and Program Delivery
- Plan, implement, and evaluate developmentally appropriate programming for infants and toddlers.
- Create nurturing learning environments that encourage exploration, curiosity, creativity, and independence.
- Incorporate Indigenous stories, songs, language, cultural teachings, and land-based learning opportunities into daily programming.
- Adapt activities and routines to meet individual developmental needs and learning styles.
- Support children's emerging self-help skills through daily routines and learning experiences.
Child Development and Relationship-Based Care
- Build secure, respectful, and responsive relationships with infants, toddlers, and their families.
- Support children's emotional regulation, communication, attachment, and social development.
- Observe and respond to children's cues in a respectful and developmentally appropriate manner.
- Foster positive interactions that support children's sense of belonging and well-being.
- Communicate regularly with families regarding children's development, routines, and experiences.
Health, Safety, and Daily Care
- Provide attentive care during feeding, diapering, toileting, sleeping, and transition routines.
- Ensure children's health, safety, and well-being at all times.
- Follow Child Care Licensing Regulations, centre policies, and health and safety procedures.
- Maintain clean, safe, and organized learning environments.
- Monitor children's well-being and communicate concerns as required.
Observation and Documentation
- Observe children's development and learning to support planning and programming.
- Maintain accurate records, learning stories, portfolios, and developmental documentation.
- Participate in discussions regarding children's progress and support needs.
- Assist in the development and implementation of Individual Support Plans when required.
Family and Community Engagement
- Build positive and respectful relationships with parents, caregivers, and extended family members.
- Encourage family participation in programming, cultural activities, and community events.
- Participate in community gatherings, celebrations, and family engagement opportunities.
- Collaborate with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and cultural facilitators to strengthen cultural learning opportunities.
Team Collaboration and Professional Development
- Work collaboratively with the Lead ECE, ECEs, ECE Assistants, Centre Manager, and other support staff.
- Participate in staff meetings, curriculum planning sessions, and professional development opportunities.
- Contribute to a positive, respectful, and supportive team environment.
- Engage in ongoing learning related to Indigenous early learning, cultural safety, child development, and inclusive practices.
Qualifications
Required
- Valid BC Early Childhood Educator Certificate and License to Practice.
- Valid Infant/Toddler Educator Specialization Certificate.
- Current First Aid Certification.
- Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening.
- Medical Clearance.
- Knowledge of infant and toddler development and relationship-based care practices.
Preferred
- Experience working in Indigenous early learning environments.
- Knowledge of Indigenous culture, language revitalization, and land-based learning approaches.
- Familiarity with the BC Early Learning Framework and AHSABC principles.
- Experience supporting culturally responsive programming for infants and toddlers.
