Senior Interior Designer, Commercial Workplace Design - Permanent - 19253
About the Opportunity
Our client, a well established architectural and interior design firm, is seeking an experienced Senior Interior Designer to join its growing team. This is an exciting opportunity for an accomplished design professional with a passion for creating innovative commercial workplace environments while leading multidisciplinary project teams from concept through completion.
Reporting to senior leadership, the successful candidate will manage complex interior design projects, cultivate strong client relationships, mentor junior designers, and ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest design standards. This role is ideal for someone who combines creative vision with strong technical expertise, business acumen, and exceptional leadership skills.
Duties include but are not limited to:
Lead commercial interior design and workplace projects from concept through construction completion
Develop creative design solutions that align with client objectives, schedules, and budgets
Gather, analyze, and document client requirements
Prepare space plans, design concepts, finish selections, furniture specifications, and presentation materials
Lead client meetings, presentations, and design workshops
Coordinate project schedules, deliverables, and multidisciplinary project teams
Mentor and provide technical guidance to intermediate and junior designers
Review design documentation to ensure quality and compliance with company standards
Prepare and oversee construction documentation and contract administration activities
Review shop drawings and manage change documentation
Attend construction site meetings and coordinate with contractors and consultants
Prepare meeting minutes, progress reports, certificates for payment, and other project documentation
Maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, contractors, and suppliers
Support business development activities and contribute to securing repeat business
Ensure compliance with applicable building codes, industry standards, and project requirements
Government Furniture Procurement experienced preferred
Contract Administration experience preferred
About You
The successful candidate will have the following:
Education and Training
Bachelor's Degree in Interior Design from a CIDA accredited program or equivalent education recognized by ARIDO
NCIDQ certification
Registered member of ARIDO
LEED AP, WELL AP, and/or Fitwel Ambassador designation would be considered strong assets
Experience
Minimum of 10 years of commercial interior design experience within a recognized Canadian architecture or interior design firm
Extensive workplace design experience
Demonstrated experience leading projects from concept through construction completion
Strong experience with client presentations, project management, contract administration, and construction documentation
Experience reviewing shop drawings, managing change orders, and coordinating consultants and contractors
Strong understanding of furniture systems, finish selections, budgeting, and specifications
Thorough knowledge of the Ontario Building Code
Technical Skills
Advanced AutoCAD skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and MS Project
Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign
Experience using SketchUp and Revit is considered an asset
Strong knowledge of construction documentation and detailing
Excellent space planning and workplace planning skills
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Strong understanding of colour theory, materials, finishes, and interior aesthetics
Advanced knowledge of interior architectural detailing
Excellent sketching and rendering abilities
Strong knowledge of furnishings, equipment, and workplace environments
Outstanding organizational and time management skills
Exceptional verbal, written, and presentation skills
Proven ability to build strong relationships with clients and project stakeholders
Demonstrated leadership and mentoring abilities
Ability to balance multiple projects and competing priorities while maintaining exceptional attention to detail
Passion for design excellence and collaborative problem solving
