About Ziyutec
Ziyutec is a Canadian electrical engineering consulting firm delivering building electrical engineering and commissioning services across multiple provinces. A significant portion of our work consists of federal, provincial and municipal government projects, as well as institutional, commercial, residential and industrial facilities.
We are expanding our project delivery team and are seeking an Intermediate Electrical Designer or Electrical Engineer who can contribute to design production, project coordination, client meetings and site work.
This position is suitable for someone with solid building electrical consulting experience who wants to take greater responsibility for complete project delivery and grow toward a Project Manager or Senior Electrical Designer/Engineer role.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare electrical designs and construction documents for commercial, institutional, residential, industrial and government buildings.
- Design normal and emergency power distribution, lighting, lighting controls, fire alarm, grounding, communications and other building electrical systems.
- Prepare single-line diagrams, panel schedules, electrical layouts, details, specifications and design calculations.
- Review architectural, mechanical, structural and civil drawings and coordinate electrical requirements with other disciplines.
- Participate in client, consultant and contractor coordination meetings.
- Conduct site investigations, field reviews and construction inspections.
- Prepare site reports, deficiency lists, meeting minutes and follow-up action items.
- Review shop drawings, RFIs, change requests and contractor submissions.
- Support tendering, contract administration and construction-phase services.
- Prepare or assist with Class D, C, B and A electrical construction cost estimates.
- Coordinate project deliverables, schedules and outstanding items with internal team members, clients and subconsultants.
- Apply applicable Canadian electrical codes, building codes, fire alarm standards and client-specific design requirements.
- Use AI-assisted tools responsibly to improve drawing review, specification review, documentation, coordination and quality control.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of Ziyutec’s design standards, templates, technical knowledge base and automated design workflows.
Required Qualifications
- Diploma or bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology or a closely related discipline.
- Minimum five years of relevant experience in building electrical design or electrical engineering consulting.
- Practical experience delivering government, institutional, public-sector or similarly documentation-intensive projects.
- Working knowledge of building power distribution, lighting, fire alarm and emergency power systems.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office.
- Ability to read and coordinate architectural, mechanical and electrical drawings and specifications.
- Experience conducting site investigations or construction field reviews.
- Ability to communicate with clients, contractors, consultants and internal project teams.
- Ability to prepare clear technical reports, meeting records and professional correspondence.
- Strong attention to detail, personal accountability and willingness to learn new systems and technologies.
- Ability to manage several assignments and meet project deadlines.
- Willingness and eligibility to undergo Government of Canada personnel security screening, which may include Reliability Status or another clearance level required by specific projects.
- Ability to travel to project sites within the region and occasionally to other Canadian locations.
Preferred Qualifications
- EIT registration, eligibility for professional registration, or P.Eng. designation in Ontario or British Columbia.
- Previous experience with federal or provincial government clients.
- Existing Government of Canada Reliability Status or security clearance.
- Experience preparing electrical construction cost estimates.
- Experience with contract administration, shop drawing review and responding to RFIs.
- Familiarity with Revit, Bluebeam, lighting calculation software or electrical analysis software.
- Experience using AI tools for drawing review, specification analysis, cost estimating, documentation or workflow automation.
- Experience developing AutoLISP, scripts, templates or other CAD productivity tools.
- Understanding of electrical installation methods and construction practices.

The person should be comfortable receiving technical review and taking increasing ownership as their capability develops. Strong learning ability, sound judgment, accuracy and initiative are important to this role.
Compensation and Career Development
The anticipated salary range is CAD $60,000–$100,000 per year. Compensation will be determined by the candidate’s relevant building electrical experience, ability to work independently, field and coordination capability, professional registration and government-project experience.
The position provides a development path toward greater responsibility in project coordination, project management, technical design, field services and AI-assisted engineering delivery.
