Calscapes is hiring an experienced Concrete Finisher to lead the hardscape side of our residential landscape construction patios, stairs, walkways, and retaining wall caps. We need someone who can deliver a clean, level finish on decorative residential work, not just flatwork, and who takes pride in the kind of detail that shows up on a finished outdoor living space.
What You'll Do
- Pour and finish concrete patios, stairs, walkways, and retaining wall caps on residential landscape projects
- Check formwork, granular base, and reinforcement materials, and direct placement of concrete to grade
- Finish surfaces using hand and power tools — trowels, edgers, screeds, and power vibrators
- Apply decorative finishes as the project calls for — broom finish, exposed aggregate, stamped, or coloured concrete
- Build and finish stairs and steps to grade, ensuring proper rise/run and a safe, code-compliant result
- Fill hollows and remove high spots on freshly poured concrete to achieve a smooth, level finish
- Read and interpret landscape design drawings and specifications
- Erect and dismantle concrete forms as required, including curved and stepped forms for stairs and patios
- Coordinate with the broader landscape crew so hardscape work ties in cleanly with paving stone, retaining wall, and planting phases
What You Need
- Minimum 3+ years experience as a concrete finisher, ideally with residential landscape/hardscape work (patios, stairs, walkways)
- Proven ability to read grade and deliver a true, level finish on decorative surfaces
- Experience with decorative finishing techniques — broom, exposed aggregate, or stamped concrete — considered a strong asset
- Comfort building and finishing stairs, steps, and curved or stepped forms
- Proficiency with hand and power tools relevant to concrete finishing
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license and reliable transportation — job sites vary across the city
- Physically able to handle demanding work: kneeling, crouching, standing for extended periods, lifting up to 50 lbs
- Strong attention to detail and pride in the quality of finished work — this is work clients see and live with every day
Pay: $25.00-$35.00 per hour
