Overview
We are seeking an experienced P.Eng. Electrical Engineer / Designer to join our engineering team supporting the design, development, integration, testing, commissioning, and technical support of industrial diesel, natural gas, and propane generator systems and compressor packages.
The successful candidate will possess strong practical knowledge of electrical power systems and industrial equipment, with the ability to take projects seamlessly from the initial electrical design stage through manufacturing, testing, commissioning, and field support.
While this is a remote position, the role requires regular communication with manufacturing, engineering, suppliers, customers, service technicians, and project teams, alongside occasional travel to customer sites, manufacturing facilities, or project locations.
Key Responsibilities
Electrical Design & Engineering
- Design and develop electrical systems for industrial generator and compressor packages.
- Develop comprehensive electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, single-line diagrams, control circuit diagrams, and panel layouts.
- Select and specify critical electrical components, including circuit breakers, contactors and relays, automatic transfer switches (ATS), distribution panels, transformers, batteries/chargers, control panels, sensors and instrumentation, grounding/bonding equipment, motor starters, and VFDs.
- Perform electrical load calculations, voltage-drop calculations, short-circuit calculations, and proper conductor sizing.
- Develop electrical bill of materials (BOMs) and detailed component specifications.
- Review generator ratings, voltage configurations, phase requirements, protection systems, and control specifications to ensure full compliance with applicable electrical codes and standards.
Manufacturing & Production Support
- Collaborate closely with manufacturing and assembly teams to ensure electrical designs are efficient and safe to produce.
- Review electrical drawings and BOMs prior to production and assist assembly personnel with wiring questions.
- Investigate and resolve design-related manufacturing issues and support factory acceptance testing (FAT) and quality-control inspections.
Field Service & Commissioning Support
- Provide expert remote technical support to field technicians, contractors, electricians, and customers.
- Assist with generator startup, commissioning, load-bank testing, and complex troubleshooting.
- Diagnose issues by reviewing field reports, test results, photographs, drawings, and equipment data, providing actionable recommendations for corrective actions.
- Travel to customer sites when required for specialized commissioning, troubleshooting, or technical support.
Documentation
- Prepare and maintain clear engineering documentation, including schematics, single-line diagrams, BOMs, testing procedures, commissioning documentation, and O&M manuals.
- Maintain rigorous revision-controlled engineering records and review supplier technical submittals.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation is required.
- 5–10 years of relevant electrical engineering experience, specifically within industrial power generation, generators, compressors, switchgear, or related heavy equipment.
- Strong, practical understanding of three-phase electrical power systems, low- and medium-voltage applications, and electrical protection, controls, grounding, and distribution systems.
- Proven proficiency in reading and developing electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and single-line diagrams.
- Extensive experience selecting electrical components, developing BOMs, and applying industrial electrical codes and standards.
- Strong troubleshooting capabilities for electrical, control, and instrumentation problems.
- Excellent technical communication and documentation skills, with the ability to operate independently in a remote environment while coordinating with a distributed team.
