Fifth Meridian Services Ltd. is seeking an experienced independent contract welder for a short-term structural skid fabrication project in Southeast Calgary.

Responsibilities
- Fit and weld structural steel skids from fabrication drawings
- Accurately lay out, fit, square and assemble structural steel components
- Perform flux-core welding in accordance with CSA W59
- Safely and accurately use oxy-acetylene cutting equipment
- Cut, cope, bevel and prepare beams, channels and other structural steel members
- Verify dimensions, squareness and fit-up before welding
- Maintain high weld quality and dimensional accuracy
- Work independently with minimal guidance or supervision
- Identify and communicate drawing, fit-up or fabrication issues before proceeding
- Maintain a clean and safe work area
Mandatory Requirements
- Current CWB flux-core welding ticket (all position)
- Strong experience fitting and welding structural steel skids
- Ability to independently read and interpret structural and fabrication drawings
- Skilled in oxy-acetylene cutting and coping structural steel members
- Ability to accurately lay out, cut, fit and assemble structural steel
- Strong understanding of CSA W59 welding requirements
- Able to work alone and complete assigned work with minimal guidance
- Active and current WCB coverage
- Commercial general liability insurance
- Ability to invoice as an independent contractor
- Own hand tools, welding PPE, safety equipment and any other tools you require to fabricate a skid in a shop based setting.
- Must be on-time and punctual.
- Available to start Tuesday, June 23, 2026
Equipment and Consumables
Welding machines, cutting equipment and all welding and cutting consumables will be supplied. The contractor is expected to provide their own hand tools and PPE.
Compensation
Competitive contractor rate based on experience and qualifications.
