About the Senior Bookkeeper Role
This role leads the day-to-day accounting function and ensures accurate and timely financial operations across the firm's multi-office environment. Working closely with leadership, the Senior Bookkeeper provides clear financial and cash-flow reporting to support decision making and overall visibility. The Senior Bookkeeper role is hands on and supports lawyers, legal assistants and staff with day-to-day financial matters while providing guidance and oversight to the accounting team.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce regular financial reports (Balance sheet, income statement and cash flow statement).
- Review general and trust bank reconciliations.
- Provide billing support to legal assistants.
- Prepare and/or oversee recurring government filings and remittances (GST, PST, WCB, EHT T4s, and Tax Installments).
- Prepare and/or oversee Law Society of BC and Alberta quarterly and annual filings.
- Process bi-weekly payroll with third-party software, ADP.
- Benefits administration along with group RRSP plan management and remittances.
- Accounts Receivable review and collections.
- Establish annual budgets.
- Manage year end process and working papers, liaise with external accountants.
- Prepare full-cycle accounting records for related entities including GST filings and year end working papers.
- Oversee the work of the accounting team.
Education and Experience
- Post-secondary education in Accounting (degree, diploma or certificate).
- Progressive accounting experience in full-cycle accounting, financial reporting and oversight of day-to-day accounting operations.
- Strong working knowledge of AP, AR, bank reconciliations, cash flow management and recurring statutory filings.
- Strong working knowledge of payroll processing and T4 preparation.
- Experience leading and managing an accounting team.
- Previous experience in multi-entity environments.
- Previous experience in a legal environment would be an asset.
- Previous experience with trust accounting and Law Society of BC and Alberta filings would be an asset.
