Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented CAD Technician/Estimator to join our innovative team located in the Guelph area. This role is responsible for reviewing customer RFQs/RFPs, interpreting technical drawings and Bills of Materials (BOMs), preparing accurate estimates and quotations, and coordinating with purchasing and production to ensure successful project execution. Your expertise will directly contribute to the successful planning and execution of projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying material types, grades, specifications, and manufacturing numbering systems in order to accurately determine project requirements and develop reliable quotations.
Duties
- Receive and review customer RFQs/RFPs
- Read and interpret customer drawings, specifications, and Bills of Materials (BOMs)
- Convert customer drawings into C&D working drawings
- Create, review, and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs)
- Identify and verify material types, grades, specifications, and part numbering systems used in manufacturing documentation
- Prepare accurate project quotations and cost estimates based on drawings, BOMs, material requirements, and manufacturing processes
- Collaborate with purchasing department to identify material requirements and pricing
- Accurately maintain material orders and track deliveries with purchasing
- Ensure all estimating and quoting activities align with customer specifications and project requirements
- Prepare comprehensive project estimates by analyzing drawings, material requirements, and labor costs.
- Review project specifications and ensure all designs comply with industry standards and client requirements.
Qualifications
- 2–3 years of manufacturing experience preferred
- Proficiency in SolidWorks 2025
- 2-3 years experience preparing estimates, quotations, and project costing
- Demonstrated ability to read, understand, and interpret Bills of Materials (BOMs)
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing materials, including material types, grades, specifications, and industry-standard numbering systems
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and correlate drawing requirements with BOMs and material specifications
- Experience identifying material requirements and associated costs for quotation purposes
- Experience with Cloud (ERP) systems is considered an asset
- Must be flexible to travel to different company locations
A thorough understanding of Bills of Materials (BOMs) and manufacturing materials is critical to this role. The successful candidate must be able to accurately interpret material requirements, specifications, grades, and part numbering systems in order to prepare precise and reliable quotations. This knowledge is fundamental to estimating project costs, sourcing materials, and ensuring successful project execution.
Pay: $26.00-$33.00 per hour
