Overview
Agricultural Certification Services Inc. (ACS) is seeking a motivated Laboratory Assistant to join our team in a full-time permanent position. Our laboratory supports the New Brunswick's potato industry through both accredited diagnostic testing and applied agricultural research focused on plant health and crop production.
The successful candidate will work alongside experienced laboratory and research staff in a collaborative environment using modern molecular biology and plant pathology techniques. Training will be provided for laboratory protocols, instrumentation, and quality assurance procedures.
Responsibilities
- Receive and accurately inventory laboratory samples
- Conduct laboratory testing in accordance with established protocols
- Prepare plant tissue samples, including removing tuber cores and extracting plant sap for pathogen testing
- Prepare laboratory equipment and supplies for daily use, including sterilization and inventory management
- Perform routine laboratory tasks such as preparing reagents, cleaning work areas, and calibrating equipment
- Maintain positive and negative controls materials, including tissue culture
- Assist with molecular and diagnostic techniques including PCR, qPCR, ELISA, microbiological culture, tissue culture, and related laboratory procedures
- Assist with greenhouse operations and routine maintenance
- Participate in field research activities as required
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Biology, Life Sciences, Plant Science, Microbiology, Biotechnology, or related discipline is preferred
- Experience with molecular biology, microbiology, plant pathology, diagnostic testing, tissue culture, PCR, qPCR, ELISA, or related laboratory techniques will be considered an asset
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to work efficiently under supervision
- Ability to follow detailed instructions accurately and maintain confidentiality of information
- Excellent communication skills and a team-oriented mindset
Position Details
- Full-time permanent position
- Regular work schedule is Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm
- During busy seasonal periods or to accommodate laboratory protocols and field research activities, occasional flexibility in work hours may be required. Time is managed collaboratively within the team to accommodate operational needs.
