About The Role
We’re looking for an Associate Director, Health Economics to play a central role in shaping its next stage of growth. In this role, you will lead complex health economics and HTA projects, mentor and develop team members, contribute to business development, and help strengthen RainCity’s methods, processes, and service offerings. This role combines advanced methodological expertise, project leadership, client engagement, operational contribution, and people leadership to support the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based solutions for clients and supports RainCity Analytics’ mission to improve healthcare decision-making through exceptional science.
The Associate Director will work closely with leading global pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies across a broad range of therapeutic areas, supporting evidence generation, HTA and reimbursement strategy, and health economic modelling. As part of a growing consultancy, this role offers meaningful opportunity to shape client work, influence internal processes, develop people, and contribute to the growth of RainCity’s Health Economics practice.
Reporting to the Director of Health Economics, the Associate Director serves as a senior scientific contributor and project lead, overseeing complex evidence synthesis activities while supervising and mentoring staff. This role contributes to methodological quality, operational improvement, and strategic growth initiatives across the organization and collaborates closely with other Outcomes Research staff and the Health Economics, Analytics, and Operations teams.
While RainCity is based in Vancouver (where we have a hybrid work environment), the position could be remote anywhere in Canada.
What you’ll do:
Methodological and HTA Expertise
- Lead the development, adaptation, validation, interpretation, and communication of cost-effectiveness models, budget impact models, and other health economic analyses.
- Ensure health economic models and related outputs are scientifically rigorous, transparent, reproducible, and aligned with HTA and payer requirements.
- Advise on the economic aspects of related projects, including systematic literature reviews, evidence synthesis, HTA submissions, reimbursement strategy, value communications, and other strategic activities.
- Monitor the scientific, HTA, and payer landscapes, assess emerging trends and their potential implications for clients and projects.
Project and Client Leadership
- Provide leadership and accountability for high-quality delivery of multidisciplinary health economics projects.
- Set project scope, strategy, timelines, staffing plans, deliverable expectations, and quality standards across projects.
- Take overall accountability for successful project delivery, ensuring projects meet scientific, financial, timeline, and client expectations.
Team Development
- Mentor Health Economics team members on model development, project execution, client communication, and core consulting skills.
- Assign and review work, provide technical and professional guidance, and ensure adherence to timelines and quality standards.
Business Development
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships that support high-quality delivery, repeat business, and ongoing collaboration.
- Represent RainCity’s Health Economics capabilities through client engagement, capabilities presentations, conference participation, and other external activities.
- Identify and communicate opportunities for additional analyses, expanded scopes, follow-on work, and strategic growth of client engagements.
Operational & Project Support
- Support successful project execution through planning, prioritization, communication, and coordination across teams.
- Allocate work across direct reports and oversee project progress, quality, and timelines.
- Other duties as assigned to support client and company success.
What you bring:
Required:
- Master’s degree or higher in health economics, epidemiology, public health, pharmacy, life sciences, or a related field.
- Minimum 6 years of experience in health economics.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a consulting environment.
- Strong understanding of the health economics project lifecycle, from design through dissemination.
- Experience supporting or developing payer and reimbursement submissions.
- Solid understanding of fundamental statistical methods, such as meta-analysis, indirect comparisons, and survival analysis (including parametric methods).
- Experience programming cost-effectiveness and budget impact models.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Visual Basic Applications required, familiarity with R preferred.
- Ability to synthesize, interpret, and clearly communicate complex health economic methods and data to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Exceptional writing and communication skills, with a track record of producing high-quality deliverables.
- Proven organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of deliverables.
Desirable:
- Experience conducting targeted and systematic literature reviews.
- Experience conducting interviews with key opinion leaders.
- Experience conducting indirect treatment comparisons.
- Experience supporting or developing regulatory or reimbursement submissions.
