Summary:
The primary responsibilities involve the maintenance of the water and wastewater systems, MD buildings and sites, and assisting the solid waste department.
Hours of Work:
Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Flexibility required.
Salary:
No level certification wage starting at $70,931.05
Level 1 certification wage starting at $76,345.64
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist with the operation and maintenance of the MD water treatment facility, water distribution systems, wastewater treatment facility and wastewater collection systems by
o Conducting regular inspections, identify problem areas, and carry out the necessary action.
o Follow the preventative maintenance schedule for all systems.
o Conduct regular sampling and analyze results in accordance with the operating license for all systems.
o Assist with the flushing of all water distribution systems.
o Assist with any necessary wastewater flushing.
o Clean all lift stations as directed.
o Collect necessary data from all systems as required.
o Assist with any inspections of water and wastewater service connections as needed.
o Assist with reading all water meters as directed.
- Conduct basic building maintenance at the Administration Building, as directed by the Public Works Supervisor.
- Provide basic facility maintenance, such as changing light bulbs, fire extinguisher checks and heating system inspections.
- Assist with the maintenance and repair of vehicles and equipment according to manufacturer’s specifications.
- In the absence of the Solid Waste Operator, collect solid waste and recyclable materials and transport to the designated site. Maintain containers (bins) as necessary and keep all transfer sites clear of litter.
- Participate in spring and fall brush clean-ups in hamlets.
- Assist the Solid Waste Operator with removal and disposal of sundry items around bins.
- Act as the Solid Waste Operator when necessary.
- Train for and perform the functions of a designated role in the MD’s Emergency Plan as assigned by the Director of Emergency Management.
- Perform all duties as outlined in the East Exshaw Emergency plan.
- Actively participate in the MD’s Health and Safety program.
- Serve as a member of the Utility Department on call system.
- Assist all other departments as directed.
Qualifications:
- Minimum Grade 12 education or equivalent, with some technical training preferred, but not required.
- Valid Alberta Operators (Drivers) Class 3 with “Q” endorsement preferred.
- Level 1 water treatment and distribution or ability to obtain certification.
- Level 1 wastewater treatment and collection or ability to obtain certification.
- WHMIS knowledge.
- First aid certificate.
- General knowledge of building construction and equipment.
- Able to work with minimal supervision and perform duties in a safe and courteous manner.
- General knowledge of machinery, large equipment, and the repair and maintenance of it.
- General knowledge of OH&S.
- Possess physical strength and agility sufficient for lifting objects up to 23kgs (50 lbs)
- Ability to perform physically demanding work often in adverse conditions.
- Good communication skills.
- Willingness to obtain any other related training.
- Able to work overtime when/if required.
