Job Summary
Community Composting is seeking a reliable, friendly and self-motivated driver to service established residential collection routes in the Victoria area.
This is an active, independent position serving appreciative customers who subscribe to our yard-waste collection service. The work combines driving, light-to-moderate physical activity and customer service.
What you will do
- Follow an established residential collection route.
- Drive a medium-duty collection truck equipped with a hydraulic cart lifter.
- Wheel customers’ carts from their property to the truck.
- Use the truck-mounted lifter to empty garden waste into the truck.
- Return each cart neatly to the customer’s property.
- Deliver bags of finished compost when scheduled.
- Record completed stops and report any route or customer-service issues.
- Complete basic daily vehicle checks and keep the truck tidy.
- Work safely, efficiently and respectfully in residential neighbourhoods.
Schedule
- Permanent, part-time position.
- Weekday work only; no evenings or weekends.
- Hours vary seasonally.
- Approximately 120 hours per month during the busier season and 100 hours per month during the quieter season.
- Work is generally scheduled on weekdays.
- Additional hours may occasionally be available.
- The route schedule includes four overnight stays in Nanaimo per month. Hotel accommodation is arranged and paid for by Community Composting. A $50 meal allowance is provided for each overnight stay.
Qualifications
- Valid Class 5 BC driver’s licence.
- Clean or satisfactory driver’s abstract.
- At least five years of driving experience preferred.
- Comfortable driving a medium-duty truck in residential neighbourhoods.
- Able to repeatedly walk, wheel loaded carts and lift or carry items weighing up to approximately 15 Kg.
- Able to work outdoors in changing weather conditions.
- Dependable, punctual and able to work independently.
- Friendly and respectful when interacting with customers.
- Good judgment, attention to detail and a commitment to doing the job properly.
- Comfortable using a smartphone for route information and basic reporting.
Compensation
- $25 to 30 per hour to start, based on experience.
- Wage review after successful completion of training and demonstration of safe, efficient and reliable performance.
