Job Description
We are recruiting for an Intermediate Structural Drafter in Ottawa, ON and/or St. John’s, NL.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Intermediate-level structural drafter capable of working with minimal supervision.
- Develop 3D production models and production outputs.
- Interpret technical, Detail Designs, and construction drawings related to ship structures design.
- Prepare specifications, sketches, requirements, and technical drawings.
- Review production outputs to confirm accuracy of the 3D model and associated deliverables and ensure compliance with specifications and standards.
- Support technical discussions for project reviews.
- Additional duties and responsibilities may be assigned based on the qualifications of the applicant.
Qualifications:
Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or associate degree or appropriate diploma; OR the equivalent combination of education, technical training, and work experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of professional CAD drafting experience within the marine/shipbuilding industry.
- Direct experience developing specialized build strategies and block definition drawings.
- Proven successes creating complex assembly drawings directly within ShipConstructor.
- Ability to translate engineering concepts into clear, error-free deliverables for shop floors.
- Strong understanding of shipbuilding industry standards, practices, welding symbols, et al.
- Familiarity with shipyard fabrication constraints, tolerances, and production capabilities.
- Strong technical knowledge of marine steel fitting, structural parts, and joint design.
- High skill level in generating precise structural details and cross-sections in CAD.
- Strong experience demonstrating proficiency using ShipConstructor for 3D modelling and production output.
- Strong background in both 2D and 3D drafting using AutoCAD or related software.
