We are looking for a highly skilled CNC programmer with strong experience in complex multi-axis machining. This position will be responsible for developing efficient, reliable, and repeatable machining processes for challenging, high-precision components, including open and closed impellers and other complex 5-axis parts.
The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on knowledge of CNC machining and will be capable of taking a job from customer-supplied models and drawings through programming, simulation, tooling development, and production optimization.
Duties & Responsibilities:
· Create new CMM programs using software PCDMIS.
· Operate CMM machine with established programs to inspect parts or products at various production stages, e.g. receiving, fabrication, machining, or assembly.
· Perform visual inspection and dimensional inspection using micrometers, calipers, height gauges or other precision tools.
· Responsible for Frist Articile Inspection (FAI) and recommendation of process improvement to achieve customer approval.
· Provide metrology support to production or engineering teams as required.
· Follow ABS established safety practices and guidelines.
Job Specifications / Qualifications:
- Develop, optimize, and verify 5-axis CNC programs for complex components
- Program open and closed impellers and other challenging 5-axis geometry
- Develop programs for 5-axis milling, 4-axis milling, and CNC turning
- Develop complete machining strategies, including roughing, semi-finishing, and finishing
- Perform toolpath simulation and collision/interference checking before programs are released to the shop floor
- Select appropriate cutting tools, toolholders, speeds, feeds, and machining parameters
- Determine tooling requirements and assist with the development of special or custom tooling when required
- Review customer-supplied models, drawings, GD&T, and specifications to determine manufacturability
- Create or modify 3D models from customer-supplied data when required
- Optimize existing programs to improve cycle time, tool life, part quality, and process reliability
- Troubleshoot machining and programming issues and implement effective solutions
- Work closely with CNC machinists during first-off prove-outs, new job introductions, and process development
- Maintain organized CNC programs, setup documentation, tooling information, and revision control
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on productivity, quality, tooling, and machining efficiency
Job Specifications / Qualifications:
- Strong experience programming simultaneous 5-axis CNC machining
- Experience programming 4-axis milling and CNC turning
- Experience machining complex components within aerospace, power generation, turbomachinery, or similar high-precision industries is highly desirable
- Experience programming open and/or closed impellers is a strong asset
- Strong understanding of CNC machining principles, cutting tools, toolholders, workholding, speeds and feeds, and machining strategies
- Strong understanding of long-reach tooling, tool accessibility, collision avoidance, and machine limitations
- Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings, specifications, and GD&T
- Ability to create and modify 3D models from customer-supplied data
- Ability to independently troubleshoot programming and machining problems and develop practical solutions
- Strong attention to detail when working with tight tolerances and complex geometry
- Experience working directly with CNC machinists during program prove-out and process development
