MobilEx Terminal Ltd. is a unique port and transload facility located along the Mission River on the lands of Fort William First Nation in Thunder Bay, Ontario.
Our operation imports Northwestern Ontario’s highway salt by vessel and transloads it to highway trucks serving depots throughout the Northwest. MobilEx also operates a direct-hit vessel loading facility with a loop track and the ability to convey dry bulk commodities directly from railcar to vessel.
We are looking for an experienced Journeyman Millwright to join our Thunder Bay team. This is a hands-on role for someone who takes pride in keeping equipment operating safely and reliably, solving mechanical problems, and working as part of a team to keep a busy terminal operation running efficiently.
For the right person, this role also offers opportunities to develop new skills, take on additional responsibilities and grow into future positions within the organization.
The Opportunity
As a Journeyman Millwright, you will play an important role in maintaining the equipment and mechanical systems that support MobilEx’s terminal, material handling and vessel operations.
You will be responsible for preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs and equipment installation while working closely with the terminal team to minimize downtime and keep operations moving safely and efficiently.
During vessel loading and unloading, the Millwright is an integral member of the operational team, helping ensure critical equipment remains reliable and operational throughout the process. You will monitor equipment, identify potential issues and respond quickly to mechanical problems to help prevent or minimize breakdowns and operational delays.
Our operation includes conveyor systems with counterweights, pulleys, bearings, gearboxes and drives, along with ship-loading equipment and a variety of mobile and stationary equipment. The work is varied, and we are looking for someone who enjoys troubleshooting, working with their hands and finding practical solutions.
Because our work is driven in part by vessel activity and operational requirements, flexibility is important. Extended or adjusted hours may occasionally be required to support vessel loading and unloading, equipment repairs or other operational needs.
Our Team & Culture
At MobilEx, we’re a close-knit team that believes in working hard, working safely and enjoying the people you work with. When there’s a vessel to load, equipment to repair or a job that needs to get done, everyone pitches in and works together.
We take our responsibilities seriously, but we also believe work should be a place where people can have some fun, build strong relationships and enjoy being part of the team.
We’re looking for someone who will fit into that environment—someone who is dependable, respectful, willing to lend a hand and comfortable being part of a team that works hard and plays hard.

- Complete routine inspections and identify maintenance or safety concerns.

- Maintain tools, equipment and work areas in a clean, safe and organized condition.

- A dependable, team-oriented approach to work.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work respectfully with others.
- The flexibility to work extended or adjusted hours when vessel schedules, equipment breakdowns or operational requirements demand it.
- A willingness to learn and develop additional skills as the operation continues to grow.
Experience in a port, terminal, grain, mining, aggregate, manufacturing or other heavy industrial environment would be considered an asset.
Welding and fabrication experience would also be an asset.
