Supply Early Childhood Educator (Casual/On-Call)Full Job Description
We are looking for exceptional, engaged, enthusiastic, and dedicated early childhood educators to join our team as Casual/On-Call Supply Teachers. Registered Early Childhood Educators (RECEs) are preferred. This is an occasional, as-needed position supporting our classrooms by covering staff absences, including sick days, vacation, professional development, leaves of absence, and, when required, longer-term coverage such as maternity leaves.
CEFA currently operates two locations in Oakville and Burlington. Supply educators have the flexibility to work at either location or both, depending on their availability and travel preferences. We strive to schedule team members at the location(s) that are most convenient for them whenever possible.
The successful candidate will be knowledgeable in early childhood learning theories, teaching strategies, and classroom management and guidance. They will be adaptable, reliable, and confident stepping into different classrooms while maintaining the high-quality learning environment our families have come to expect.
Successful candidates will bring enthusiasm, creativity, professionalism, and a genuine love of working with young children. They will have strong communication and organizational skills, work well independently and as part of a team, and demonstrate a positive, caring attitude.

The CEFA educational system at Core Education & Fine Arts (CEFA) Junior Kindergarten is one of today's leading approaches to educating young children. Its rich academic content is designed to stimulate children in many different ways while optimizing the natural development of the child's brain.

Responsibilities
- Implement high-quality programming in accordance with the CEFA curriculum while supporting children's physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and engaging classroom environment that promotes children's health, security, and well-being.
- Adapt quickly to different classrooms, age groups, routines, and teaching teams.
- Build positive relationships with children, families, colleagues, and management.
- Support children's development of self-help skills, independence, and positive social interactions.
- Observe and document children's progress as required and communicate professionally with families and team members.
- Follow all CEFA policies, Ministry of Education licensing requirements, and health and safety procedures.
- Work collaboratively with teaching teams to maintain classroom organization, cleanliness, and preparation of learning materials.
- Demonstrate professionalism through regular attendance, punctuality, flexibility, and appropriate dress.
- Attend staff meetings and professional development opportunities when required.
Qualifications
- Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE) preferred. Applicants who are RECEs must be in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators.
- Minimum 1 year of experience working in a licensed childcare setting preferred.
- Early Childhood Education Diploma (ECE) or related post-secondary education in Early Childhood Education, Child and Youth Care, or a related field preferred but not required.
- Standard First Aid and CPR Level C Certification.
- Familiarity with the Ontario Child Care and Early Years Act and Licensing Regulations.
- Knowledge of Montessori and Reggio Emilia philosophies is considered an asset.
- Strong communication, organizational, and classroom management skills.
- Reliable, dependable, and able to respond to occasional short-notice staffing needs.
- Ability to work with children from infancy through kindergarten age.
Working Conditions
- Physically demanding position involving lifting, bending, kneeling, sitting, standing, and walking throughout the day.
- Requires attention to detail, flexibility, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Manual dexterity and the ability to actively participate in all aspects of the classroom.
Compensation
- Hourly wage: $21.00–$24.00 per hour, based on education, qualifications, and experience.
- CEFA Methodology Training.
- Ongoing professional development through workshops, coaching, and mentoring.
- Opportunities for additional shifts and longer-term assignments may be available.
Job Type

- Candidates should have weekday availability between 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Availability does not need to be full-time but should be consistent.
- Opportunities for longer-term assignments, including vacation coverage, leaves of absence, and maternity leave coverage, may be available.
Experience
- Early childhood education: 1 year preferred.
License/Certification
- Registration with the College of Early Childhood Educators (preferred).
- Standard First Aid & CPR Level C (required).
- Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check (Criminal Reference Check) completed within the last 6 months (required).
- Medical documentation, including a clear Tuberculosis (TB) test or assessment completed within the last 3 months, as required under the Child Care and Early Years Act (required).
