Canada West Veterinary Specialists (CWVS), a privately owned and operated, multi-disciplinary emergency and specialty hospital is looking for a second Staffing Coordinator to join our team.
The first veterinary specialty hospital in Metro Vancouver, CWVS is a state-of-the-art Level VECCS level 1 and VetCOT certified facility. We have 30+ veterinarians in the following disciplines: cardiology, emergency and critical care, internal medicine, neurology, oncology, radiology, and surgery, In addition to a rehabilitation department, 6 ORs, 2 isolation wards, and a newly redesigned ER, ICU, and Wards, we are equipped with 2 digital radiology suites, a CT, and a 1.5T MRI.

POSITION SUMMARY
We have an opportunity for an organized and dedicated full-time veterinary assistant or technician to join the team as a Staffing Coordinator. The goal of a Staffing Coordinator is to ensure optimal staffing levels by increasing the efficiency of the people on-site to promote excellent care and support for our patients. This role has the autonomy to reappropriate staff in the hospital, including making changes to the schedule during shifts to better support hospital operations. This role includes a combination of on the floor work as a Wards/ICU or ERCC technician or PCA along with staff coordinating during shifts to deal with staffing shortages. You will require excellent organization and communication skills and work under a high level of integrity, discretion, and confidentiality to succeed. This position works in tandem with our primary Staffing Coordinator.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Respond to coverage needs, such as sick calls
- Communicate effectively with doctors, shift leads, locums and service staff for coverage needs
- Use critical thinking and problem-solving skills to identify staffing concerns while on shift
- Maintaining a presence on the hospital floor, check-in regularly with the services
- Collaborate with the leadership team to review suggestions and present solutions related to schedule changes that increase the efficiency of resources
- Participate actively in making recommendations to optimize strategic hospital operations and that resources are being used effectively and re-appropriated in shortages
- Ensure staffing levels and staff skill levels meet the minimum hospital needs. (e.g. Ensure there is anesthesia coverage for all shifts)
- Listen and remain open to feedback, alternative suggestions, and the needs of staff

WORK HOURS
- Saturday to Tuesday
- 8:00am – 6:30 pm (with flexibility on working hours due to schedule needs)
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE
- Graduate of an accredited program for Veterinary Technologists, or
- Graduate of an accredited program for Veterinary Assistants or minimum 1 year experience in the veterinary field
