Opportunity
The Finance Specialist is responsible for delivering comprehensive financial and bookkeeping support to two nonprofit organizations; the Edmonton Chamber of Voluntary Organizations (ECVO) and the Edmonton Seniors Coordinating Council (ESCC). Both organizations operate within a shared office environment, and this role provides consistent financial services to each in a shared-services capacity.

This role requires the management of confidential, sensitive financial information while ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to regulatory requirements.
Reporting to the Director, HR & Shared Services (ECVO) and the Executive Director (ESCC), the Finance Specialist will have a strong understanding of working within multiple non-profit organizations with similar timeframes and provide accurate financial leadership and key bookkeeping processes while maintaining a high level of accuracy for each.
Role Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting:
- Deliver accurate and comprehensive financial reporting to organizational leadership and Boards of Directors.
- Prepare monthly financial statements including balance sheets, income statements, project spending reports and cash flow reports.
- Review, monitor, and report on deferred revenue, restricted and unrestricted funds in accordance with funder agreements and organizational policies.
- Conduct financial, variance, and forecasting analyses to support strategic decision-making.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and non-profit accounting standards.
- Review and analyze financial data to identify trends, anomalies, and resolve variances.
- Support the development and implementation of accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Participate in annual budget and forecast processes.
- Monitor organizational and project budgets to ensure compliance with eligible expenses and funder agreements.
- Collaborate with team members to provide accurate financial reporting for projects and funded initiatives.
- Lead the annual audit including the preparation of accounting records, supporting documents, and coordination with external auditors.
Full Cycle Accounting:
- Manage full cycle accounting activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, interorganizational reconciliation, and month end/year end closings.
- Complete monthly bank and credit card reconciliations in a timely manner.
- Maintain accurate coding structures within accounting systems to support funder, program and organizational reporting.
- Monitoring cash flow to ensure organizational stability.
Payroll Administration:
- Prepare and process payroll accurately and on schedule.
- Maintain comprehensive payroll records within Sage and Sharepoint.
- Allocate payroll expenses across proper cost centres and projects.
- Process CRA payroll tax remittances on schedule and prepare annual T4’s.
- Prepare Record of Employment (ROE’s) when required.
Records & System Management:
- Manage and maintain Sage project codes to track project and/or funder-specific revenue and expenses.
- Maintain organized and secure digital financial records for both organizations.
- Ensure confidentiality and adherence to organizational data-retention guidelines.
Organizational Supports:
- Contribute to the development, evaluation, and improvement of internal processes.
- Other activities as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree (an equivalent combination of education and experience would be considered) focused on Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience in a similar role.
- Previous experience with non-profit accounting standards and non-profit financial management would be an asset.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
- Knowledge of Sage accounting, Employment Hero (Humi), Stripe, and other financial software.
- Proven experience with Microsoft Office platforms such as Outlook, Sharepoint, and other Microsoft tools.

Annual Salary: $46,410 - $58,546.40, commensurate with experience
Hours of Work: Part-Time, 28 hours per week (4 days per week)
