Maintenance Person (Temporary Full-time)
Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the Maintenance Person is a member of the maintenance team who works collaboratively as a team member with a focus on the provision of customer service excellence and a strong commitment on compliance with occupational health and safety policies and procedures. The Maintenance Person is primarily responsible for general maintenance and repairs, as well as preventative maintenance of the building and systems throughout. This position will be located at both our Tiffany Village and Kenny’s Pond locations.
Description of Key Responsibilities/Duties:
- Fulfills the duties and responsibilities of a Maintenance Person with a pleasant demeanour focused on upholding excellent customer service, recognizing the importance of maintaining these ongoing relationships with all our clients, inclusive of residents, families, guests, volunteers and staff.
- Maintains the building in good condition through general repairs and maintenance including, but not limited to, painting, plastering and minor repair work.
- Responds to maintenance requests made by residents via the work order system for items needing assessment and/or repair.
- Responds to maintenance requests made by management and staff via the work order system for assessment and/or general maintenance/repair throughout the entire building.
- Performs minor plumbing repairs.
- Operates power tools in accordance with occupational health and safety standards.
- Maintains and repairs equipment and residential appliances/furniture/fixtures owned by the Partnership.
- Performs minor electrical work such as replacing light bulbs, ballasts, switches and light fixtures.
- Performs building inspections, as well as occupational health and safety workplace inspections.
- Maintains interior and exterior grounds in a clean and well-groomed condition.
- Oversees safety and security of building.
- Moves and assembles office furniture and fixtures, installs shelving, and is responsible for “making ready” suites for permanent resident move-in, respite and/or guest stay.
- Responsible for completion of other duties such as general cleaning of common areas, garbage removal, gathering/breakdown of recyclables and other tasks in accordance with the maintenance personnel tasks.
- Maintains a safe, clean environment, adhering to safe work practices.
- Monitors, orders and restocks maintenance supplies.
- Completes inventory count for Maintenance items on a quarterly basis.
- Procures maintenance supplies with the use of personal vehicle.
- Required to travel back and forth between properties and manufacturers/suppliers.
- Ensures maintenance equipment and supplies are used, maintained and stored in a safe, clean, and efficient manner. Responsible for fixing equipment that is broken or in need of repair and/or coordinates repairing/maintenance of equipment with outside consultants if outside the scope of in-house maintenance personnel.
- Reports unsafe/faulty equipment or hazards to immediate supervisor and/or other managers as deemed appropriate.
- Performs a key role in the execution of fire and emergency procedures, as per the Company’s emergency preparedness plan.
- Responsible for assisting with after-hour building emergencies such as loss of power, flood, fire, evacuation and storm preparation.
- Maintains positive communications with local fire marshals, building inspectors, and other external stakeholders.
- Ensures written documentation and verbal reports are maintained as per Company policy and procedures with respect to confidentiality and security.
- Fosters an environment of safeguard to ensure residents’ well-being is maintained, particularly for those seniors who are vulnerable and require guidance/support.
- Observes and reports any changes in residents’ well-being to immediate supervisor or, if not available, the RN Charge Nurse, the RCM or her designate, as deemed appropriate.
- Performs other related duties as required to ensure quality maintenance service.

Experience, Training/Education and Work Record:
- Graduation from a recognized diploma program in building, carpentry, electrical, plumbing or mechanical trades with 1-3 years’ previous work experience in a related field; or high school diploma supplemented with 1-3 years’ previous work experience in a related field.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of WHMIS, Occupational Health and Safety Standards, building codes, and fire safety codes.
- Demonstrated knowledge and comfort level in working with a vulnerable population of seniors, who may present with various challenges such as cognitive impairment.
- Strong commitment and focus on providing resident/client service excellence.
- Knowledgeable of the importance of and ability to comply with internal policies and procedures.
- Previous experience working in the field of seniors’ care/living and persons with disabilities is preferred.
- Energetic, enthusiastic, motivating, compassionate and caring person who has demonstrated passion to work with seniors.
- Ability to work in a flexible, resilient environment to meet the needs of residents.
- A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required.
Hours of Work:
· Full-time hours are regularly scheduled in advance for a minimum of 75 hours bi-weekly.
· Hours of work may vary from week to week in order to maintain a flexible environment to meet the needs of our residents.
· Hours may include daytime, evening, weekend, and holiday coverage, as required.
Rate of Pay:
- $23.34 per hour as per the current Collective Agreement
