Qualifications:

Applicants must be female identifying.
1) Applicants must have successfully completed a Social Work Diploma or Degree (or similar) as a minimum academic qualification. (A copy of your qualifications must be attached to your resume.)
2) Preference will be given to individuals identifying as an BIPOC woman to reflect the majority of women we as a shelter serve with demonstrated employment experience in the field of Gender Based Violence for survivors and their children.
3) Preference will also be given to anyone who speaks more than one language.
4) Shelter or similar work experience in the area of Violence against Women (survivors) of .5 years to five years of full time or full-time equivalent performed at a competent level. Preference given to applicants who have worked in a shelter setting.
5) Applicants must be able to articulate and demonstrate an understanding and ability to serve 2SLGBTQAI+ survivors and understand racism and oppression of BIPOC in addition to 2SLGBTQAI+.
6) Applicants must be able to articulate and demonstrate their understanding of feminism and what it means and looks like within the shelter’s work and what feminism looks like within themselves.
7) Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with others and work as a team player.
8) Demonstrated understanding of mindfulness principals as they relate to being a woman/survivor and or child advocate.
9) Demonstrated understanding and commitment to the Mission, Vision and Value statements of the organization as well as an analysis of Violence Against Women/Survivors.
10) Demonstrated ability to use the following word processing and database programs – Microsoft Word, Windows, WISH.
11) Must be vaccinated against or willing to get vaccinated against COVID-19.
12) Must have demonstrated strong team building skills as well as be able to problem solve independently.
13) Must have access to own vehicle for use at work.
14) Provide current First Aid /CPR certificate or willing to complete upon hire.
15) Successful completion of an Enhanced Criminal Reference check to the satisfaction of the Director.
16) Must have legal authorization to work in Canada for the duration of the contract/employment.
17) Must provide a copy of Work Permits, if applicable.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
To provide a safe, home like atmosphere for the survivors. To maintain all standards of safety for the protection of survivors, both women and children.
To answer the phone and door. Always ensuring survivors confidentiality and safety.
Take crisis calls and ensure that caller is either accepted, referred and/or provided resources.
To provide admissions and discharge process to survivors.
To complete daily room checks at start of shift and identify any hazards.
To do all necessary paperwork attached to the survivors – intakes, files, logs etc. in a neat, concise and professional manner. To keep in confidence all files and paper work directly related to the women and children.
To be solely responsible for the medications ensuring med policies are strictly adhered to.
To be responsible for overall orderliness of the House, and ensure that all daily chores are completed by the survivors. To assist women with housekeeping tasks.
To co-operate with other staff in compiling grocery lists and weekly menus when required.
To assist survivors with appointment making and keeping upon her request.
To make appropriate referrals to agencies within the community upon her request.
To allow women to fully express her feelings, concerns and decisions.
To assist the women in identifying their own needs.
To familiarize self with community agencies and mandates.
To assist with problem solving skills in House interpersonal relationships.
To provide support that is empowering of women at all times.
To present in a respectful manner at all times.
To work cooperatively with the mothers and the Child Care Workers in keeping in touch with the needs of the children in the House.
To provide a positive non-violent role model to women in interactions with children.
Pay: $31.85-$34.50 per hour
