Play, Learn, Grow Academy is seeking a dedicated and experienced Early Childhood Assistant (ECA) to support the delivery of a high-quality childcare program in accordance with the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA) and Ontario Ministry of Education standards.
The successful candidate will work alongside Registered Early Childhood Educators (RECEs) to create a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment that promotes the well-being, learning, and development of all children. This role requires a caring, dependable individual who is passionate about early childhood education and committed to maintaining a professional standard of care.
Key Responsibilities
Program Support & Child Development
- Assist in the planning and implementation of developmentally appropriate programs that align with Ontario’s “How Does Learning Happen?” framework
- Support children’s learning through play-based experiences that encourage inquiry, creativity, and exploration
- Foster children’s social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development through positive interactions and guidance
- Encourage independence, self-help skills, and confidence in daily routines
Supervision & Safety
- Provide active supervision at all times in accordance with Ministry ratios and licensing requirements
- Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of all children in care
- Follow all centre policies, procedures, and public health guidelines
- Maintain a clean, sanitary, and hazard-free environment, including toys, equipment, and classroom spaces
Daily Care Routines
- Assist with meals/snacks, ensuring proper food handling and allergy awareness
- Support toileting, diapering, and hygiene practices in a respectful and professional manner
- Help manage transitions, rest periods, and outdoor play
- Contribute to maintaining consistent daily schedules
Team Collaboration & Communication
- Work collaboratively with RECEs and team members to support program delivery and classroom management
- Communicate effectively and respectfully with children, families, and colleagues
- Report any concerns regarding children’s development, behaviour, or health to supervisors
- Participate in staff meetings and ongoing professional development as required
Documentation & Compliance
- Assist in observing and documenting children’s experiences and development when required
- Ensure all practices align with Ministry licensing standards and centre policies
- Maintain confidentiality of all children, families, and staff
Qualifications & Requirements
- Minimum 1 year of experience in a licensed daycare or childcare setting (required)
- Valid Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC)
- Current Standard First Aid & CPR Level C certification
- Up-to-date immunizations as per public health requirements
- Knowledge of the CCEYA and Ministry licensing requirements is an asset
- Familiarity with “How Does Learning Happen?” is considered an asset
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
- Demonstrated patience, reliability, and a genuine interest in working with young children
Working Conditions
- Monday to Friday
- Physically active role requiring lifting (up to 40 lbs), bending, and extended periods of standing
