Job Summary
The EDM Operator is responsible for operating the EDM machine, ensuring proper maintenance, organization, and inventory management of tools and equipment used for production. The EDM Operator also will perform the assembly and manual machining work as required, coordinating with the other departments regarding tool repairs and replacements, ensuring all tools meet company standards and safety regulations.
Qualifications
Post-secondary diploma OR Certification in a related field preferred.

Experience
· 3 – 5 years of work experience as an EDM Operator or in a similar role.
· Experience in a plastic extrusion manufacturing environment is an asset.
Duties & Responsibilities
· Operate and set up machines to perform operations.
· Study blueprints and CAD software (Mastercam) of products to be produced to determine programming needs.
· Study and interpret engineering drawings, manuals, specifications or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work pieces, sequence of operations and setup requirements.
· Determine machining operations, the sequence in which machining operations must be carried out, and the time required to finish the job to efficiently manufacture the product.
· Verify dimensions of parts machined using precise measuring instruments (e.g., micrometers, calipers).
· Based on specifications, write programs to accomplish the various machining operations as per the determined sequence and dimensions of the finished product.
· Perform routine maintenance on equipment and machinery.
· Enter codes specifying speed, feed and cut of the toolpath for discharge machine (EDM) machine tools.
· Provide assistance in planning the production cycle in order to set and achieve optimal production targets.
· Ensure all EDM programming written is in accordance with production blueprints and quality standards.
· Prior to full implementation, put machinery through test runs to ensure programming is working effectively. Note: discrepancies between blueprint specifications and test products as they arise and provide resolution through program adjustment.
· Continually maintain the EDM programming database.
· Troubleshoot and diagnose common EDM problems, consulting with manufacturer as necessary.
· Closely monitor machines for signs of problems while ensuring output is meeting set Specifications.
· Communicate with supervisors, engineers, production control, quality and other shop personnel for assignments and to resolve machining or quality issues.
· Liaise with multi-disciplinary teams to identify areas of inefficiency.
· Other duties as required.
