Child and Youth Counsellor (CYC) – Specialized Autism Support

Hours: 30-40 hours per week.

RockHaven Treatment Foster Care (TFC) provides a safe, stable, and nurturing home environment for foster children and youth with complex emotional, developmental, and behavioral needs. As a family-based treatment program, we enable young people to experience healthy, healing relationships in an environment designed to promote growth, resilience, and independence.
We are currently seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Child and Youth Counsellor with specialized experience supporting children/youth on the Autism Spectrum to join our progressive team.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will provide targeted, therapeutic support tailored to the unique strengths and needs of a youth on the autism spectrum, while maintaining the daily routines of the foster home.
- Behavioral & Sensory Support: Implement individualized behavioral support plans, utilizing positive reinforcement, de-escalation techniques, and sensory-regulation strategies.
- Skill Development: Assist the youth in developing key life skills, achieving developmental milestones, and fostering meaningful socialization opportunities.
- Program Implementation: Accurately carry out individualized programming and therapeutic goal plans.
- Documentation: Complete objective, detailed daily logs, progress reports, and incident reports in a timely and professional manner.
- Daily Living Support: Assist with the day-to-day functioning of the home, including light housekeeping duties to maintain a structured, clean, and organized environment.
- Transportation: Safely transport the youth to community access visits, medical appointments, school, or recreational activities.
- Crisis Intervention: Safely manage and de-escalate crisis situations using trauma-informed care and therapeutic communication.
Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Graduate of a Child and Youth Care (CYC/CYW) program. An equivalent diploma or degree in a related field (e.g., DSW, ECE, Behavioral Science) paired with relevant experience will be considered.
- Autism Expertise: Proven hands-on experience working with children or youth on the Autism Spectrum (ASD) and managing complex developmental/sensory needs.
- Collaboration: Strong ability to build supportive, collaborative working relationships with foster parents, agency staff, and community partners.
- Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills for effective reporting and team collaboration.
Job Requirements
- Current Broad Record Police
- Child Welfare Record Check
- Valid Ontario Class "G" Driver’s Licence with a satisfactory Driver’s Abstract
- Reliable personal vehicle with proof of $2 Million liability insurance
- Valid CPR/First Aid (Level C) certification
- Willingness to complete Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) training upon hire
