Position Summary
As a Senior Accountant, you will be responsible for full cycle accounting for projects in a high-volume workplace. You will lead the financial administration of construction projects by managing project cost tracking, contract and billing processes, and financial reporting. Reporting to General Manager, you’ll play a critical role within the organization, supporting the entire Operations Team.
As a Senior Accountant your key accountabilities will involve:
- Overseeing all financial aspects of projects from beginning to end to support the Project Manager and team including budgeting, forecasting, and month end project reporting on a timely basis.
- Monthly progress billings to clients.
- Managing billing, A/R, A/P, GL, cost accounting/cost control, and revenue recognition.
- Ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing.
- Preparing financial reports for Project Managers, including budgets, cashflows, and forecasts.
- Processing and coding vendor invoices, preparing monthly vendor contract cheques, ensuring timely payments, and managing vendor payments.
- Monitoring job cost accounting, reclassing entries, and reconciling subcontracting commitments and change orders.
- Utilizing project management and construction software platforms (e.g., Ceridian, Sage) to setup projects, support accurate financial tracking, document control, and project reporting.
- Ensuring integrity of accounting records and reports by recording, verifying, and entering accurate and timely transactions and monitoring and ensuring accuracy of costs and revenues.
- Reviewing and analyze project costs, revenues, change orders, subcontract commitments, and job costing reports to ensure financial accuracy and project profitability.
- Preparing and file statutory remittances and regulatory filings, including GST, EHT, WCB, and T5018 reporting.
- Performing monthly bank and general ledger account reconciliations and manage banking activities, including deposits and cash management.
- Administering corporate insurance activities, including renewals, endorsements, and equipment additions or removals.
- Researching and responding to accounting and financial queries on projects.
- Communicating and liaising with Project Managers, Vendors, and Management effectively.
- Identifying opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls, and reporting efficiencies while supporting the accounting and project teams as required.

As a Senior Accountant your experience and qualifications will include:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in construction accounting practices and proper operating procedures and job costing.
- Financial Management certification with strong business analytical skills.
- Strong understanding of internal control systems and procedures.
- Proficiency in MS Office (especially Excel) and accounting software (e.g., Sage 300 CRE).
- Knowledgeable in advanced project accounting best practices.
