Position Details
Toronto's First Post Office, a historic landmark housing a museum and gift shop, is looking for one to two motivated and detail-oriented Postal Clerks to join our team.
The Postal Clerk is responsible for providing excellent customer service at Toronto’s First Post Office, which operates as a museum, full-service post office, and gift shop. This includes handling postal services, retail sales, and offering information about the facility’s history to visitors.
Contract, part-time, $17.60/hr (increasing to $17.95/hr effective October 1, 2026, in line with the Ontario minimum wage), approximately 12.5 to 28.5 hours per week.
Duties and Responsibilities
● Following post office procedures set out by Canada Post Corporation and additional procedures set out by TYHS management.
● Opening and closing the museum and retail operation.
● Sort and process incoming and outgoing mail accurately and efficiently.
● Assist customers with mailing services, provide information, and sell postal products.
● Weigh packages, calculate postage, and handle payments for services.
● Prepare shipping forms, including customs declarations for international shipments.
● Maintain inventory of postal supplies and ensure availability.
● Follow safety protocols when handling hazardous or fragile items.
● Perform clerical tasks like filing, data entry, and organizing records as needed.
● Processing gift shop sales and recording transactions.
● Assisting visitors with museum interpretation.
● Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
● Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
● Experience: Prior experience in customer service, clerical work, or a postal-related position is preferred but not required.
● Skills:
○ Excellent customer service and communication skills.
○ Strong attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks at once.
○ Basic math skills for calculating postage and processing payments.
○ Physical ability to lift and carry packages of varying sizes and weights.
