Job description
As a Class 1 Heavy Wrecker Operator, you will be responsible for performing complex heavy-duty recoveries, towing large commercial vehicles, and transporting industrial equipment. This role requires technical expertise, hands-on wrecker experience, and a strong commitment to safety and customer service.
Responsibilities:
Safely operator heavy wreckers and recovery units to perform towing, recover, and transportation of large vehicles and equipment.
Perform heavy vehicle recoveries including tractor swaps, rollovers, winch-outs, and accident scene recovery.
Tow and transport large commercial vehicles including buses, vac trucks, dump trucks, and other heavy trucks.
Operate tractor and Landoll combinations for the movement of C-Cans, motorhomes, and other industrial equipment.
Respond to emergency situations in a professional and timely manner, often working with law enforcement and emergency personnel.
Communicate clearly with dispatch, team members, and customers to ensure efficient service.
Conduct pre-trip inspections and perform routine maintenance checks on equipment.
Accurately complete required paperwork, records, and electronic logs.
Ensure adherence to all safety standards, company policies, and provincial transportation regulations.
Required Qualifications:
Valid Class 1 Driver’s License (18-speed manual transmission experience required).
Minimum 1 year full-time heavy wrecker operating experience.
Demonstrated experience with heavy vehicle recoveries and towing of large commercial vehicles.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, independently or as part of a team.
Excellent communication and problem solving skills.
Strong knowledge of Red Deer and surrounding areas.
Must provide a recent drivers abstract (employee paid) and criminal record check (employer paid).
Must pass a drug, alcohol, and fit-to-work test.
Legally entitled to work in Canada.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience operating tractor and Landoll combinations for moving industrial equipment.
Additional towing and recovery certifications (WreckMasters or similar).
Working Conditions/Physical Demands:
Perform moderate to heavy tasks for long periods of time
Work primarily outdoors in all weather
Lift/push/pull up to 100lbs regularly
Travel may include local, provincial, and inter-provincial routes
May assist at accident scenes with emergency personnel
