Overview
JKCE Probuild Contracting Corp. is seeking an experienced Site Safety Officer (SSO) to oversee health and safety for a mid-rise wood-frame multi-family residential construction project in Langley, BC. The project consists of two six-storey residential buildings and a one-level underground parkade, with a total gross floor area of approximately 150,000 sq. ft.
The Site Safety Officer is responsible for promoting a strong safety culture, ensuring compliance with WorkSafeBC regulations and company safety policies, conducting site inspections, and working closely with the Project Manager, Site Superintendent, and subcontractors to maintain a safe work environment.
Responsibilities
- Implement and monitor the project Health and Safety Program in accordance with WorkSafeBC regulations and company policies.
- Conduct regular site inspections and identify potential hazards and unsafe work practices.
- Ensure workers and subcontractors comply with applicable safety requirements and safe work procedures.
- Conduct new worker orientations and lead toolbox talks and safety meetings.
- Investigate workplace incidents, injuries, and near misses, and recommend corrective actions.
- Maintain project safety documentation, including inspection reports, incident reports, safety meeting records, and training records.
- Monitor site housekeeping, fall protection, PPE compliance, and other safety controls.
- Coordinate with the Project Manager, Site Superintendent, subcontractors, and regulatory authorities on health and safety matters.
- Promote continuous improvement in workplace health and safety performance.
Qualifications Required
- Minimum 3 years of experience as a Site Safety Officer, Construction Safety Officer, or in a similar health and safety role on commercial or multi-family residential construction projects.
- Construction Safety Officer (CSO) certification issued by the BC Construction Safety Alliance (BCCSA) or an equivalent recognized certification.
- Sound knowledge of the Workers Compensation Act and WorkSafeBC Occupational Health and Safety Regulation.
- Valid Occupational First Aid Level 2 (or higher) certification.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Valid BC Class 5 Driver's Licence.
Preferred
- National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) designation.
- Experience on wood-frame multi-family residential construction projects.
- Experience coordinating safety for multiple subcontractors on active construction sites.
Working Conditions
- Active construction site environment.
- Exposure to varying weather conditions, noise, dust, and construction activities.
- Frequent walking, climbing stairs and ladders, and conducting site inspections.
- Occasional overtime may be required to meet project requirements.
Pay: $58,000.00-$72,000.00 per year
