The successful candidate will be required to perform work in the cleaning and minor maintenance of City buildings. These janitorial duties are performed under the general supervision and are subject to review by the Building Service Worker – Lead Hand.

Manual cleaning and operation of powered cleaning equipment such as vacuum cleaners and auto-scrubbers.

Cleaning of washrooms and change rooms.

Setting up and taking down of program and rental equipment.

Taking inventory, ordering, distributing of supplies throughout the facility.

Maintaining oral and written communications with other Building Service Workers, supervisor and staff.

Identifying maintenance problems and reporting work required.

Ensuring facility is clean and safe for public and staff use.

Opening and closing of facility.
-
Ability to apply knowledge of the cleaning methods, material, tools and equipment used in janitorial work.

Sound knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in carpet cleaning.

Knowledge of routine building and equipment maintenance and minor repair tasks.

Knowledge of WHMIS.

Knowledge of safe work practices, including but not limited to WHMIS, Ladder Safety etc.

Ability to understand and follow non-complex oral and written instructions.

Ability to deal courteously and effectively with co-workers and the public.

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Ability to successfully pass a Police Information Check.

Completion of Grade 12 plus successful completion of a recognized Building Service Worker course, in addition to a minimum of one-year experience in janitorial work is required.

Building Service Worker Certificate.

Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) Certificate

Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia.
During regular cleaning duties you may have occasional exposure to dirt, dust and mold. May have exposure to potentially infectious material containing organisms during bathroom cleaning duties. Routine light and heavy physical effort and capability required to carry out duties, including lifting of heavy objects and other various articles/items.
