Job Summary
The HVAC / Plumbing Mechanical Insulation Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates for mechanical insulation systems associated with HVAC and plumbing installations. This role involves reviewing drawings and specifications, performing quantity take-offs, analyzing material and labor costs, and supporting the bidding and project execution process.
Key Responsibilities
- Review HVAC and plumbing drawings, specifications, and tender documents
- Perform detailed quantity take-offs for mechanical insulation (ductwork, piping, equipment)
- Prepare accurate cost estimates, budgets, and bid proposals
- Analyze material, labor, and subcontractor costs
- Coordinate with project managers, engineers, suppliers, and subcontractors
- Request and evaluate vendor and supplier quotations
- Identify project risks, scope gaps, and value engineering opportunities
- Assist in preparing bid clarifications and technical submissions
- Update estimates based on design changes and RFIs
- Support project handover and cost control during execution
Required Qualifications
- Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field
- 3+ years of experience in HVAC / plumbing mechanical insulation estimating
- Strong knowledge of mechanical insulation systems and materials (e.g., elastomeric, fiberglass, PIR, mineral wool)
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and specifications
- Proficient in MS Excel and estimating software (PlanSwift, Bluebeam, or similar is a plus)
- Strong analytical and mathematical skills
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
Preferred Skills & Experience
- Experience with commercial, industrial, or large-scale construction projects
- Knowledge of relevant insulation standards and codes
- Strong communication and negotiation skills
- Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple bids
