Job Description
SignalChem is looking for an EHS & Lab Manager to oversee laboratory operations and lead the company's health and safety program. This role ensures regulatory compliance, maintains efficient lab workflows, and fosters a strong safety culture in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Responsibilities:
Lab Operations & Equipment
- Manage daily lab operations, ensuring a clean, safe, and efficient environment.
- Optimize workflows and coordinate lab space through cross-functional collaboration.
- Assist with budgeting, procurement, and facility planning.
- Oversee equipment lifecycle (maintenance, calibration, qualification) and inventory systems.
- Manage service providers, including waste disposal and contractor agreements.
Health & Safety Management
- Develop and improve the Occupational Health and Safety Program, ensuring full regulatory compliance (WorkSafeBC, WHMIS, Biosafety).
- Conduct hazard assessments, risk analyses, and workplace inspections to implement necessary controls.
- Oversee emergency preparedness, including drills and business continuity planning.
- Manage safety orientation and annual training programs for all staff.
Incident Management & Compliance
- Lead investigations into incidents and near misses, performing root cause analyses and tracking corrective actions.
- Coordinate safety audits and regulatory inspections.
- Maintain comprehensive health and safety documentation.
Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC)
- Act as the management representative on the JHSC, coordinating meetings, inspections, and follow-ups.
- Drive employee engagement in health and safety initiatives.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably with a focus in a Scientific area or Health & Safety, and a minimum of 5 years related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- In-depth experience in a pharmaceutical/biotech laboratory and technical proficiency, knowledge of day-to-day activities in a cross-functional laboratory environment.
- Experience with WorkSafeBC regulations and health and safety compliance.
- Experience conducting workplace investigations, risk assessments, and safety audits.
