Job Summary (purpose of job, what is done, how):
The Product Development Assistant plays a key role in helping the R&D department to fulfill its mandate to innovate competitive new bakery products. He/she also works well with other departments QC, Sales, Product Development, Production, QA, and other areas to respond efficiently and effectively.
The incumbent has the ability to manage deadline pressures and work well with the R&D team, ensuring a positive work atmosphere and timely, high quality results.
Working Conditions (physical requirements, hours, travel, other):
- Capable of lifting up to 25KG
- Work areas include: R & D office, Production floor, blast freezer, fridge
- Able to stand for extended periods and perform a variety of activities which may include lifting, bending, stretching, squatting, pulling; exposure to heat or cold
- Variable hours as noted above
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Support daily R&D operations, including, but not limited to, experiment execution, sample preparation, data collection, data recording and documentation
- Gather, weigh and prepare materials for testing
- Conduct and assist in Product & Development related tests, including but not limited to, shelf-life testing, plant trials, CI, and complete all related documentation as needed
- Continually evaluate, search and investigate opportunities for improvements to existing products
- Must actively seek ideas and best practices from many sources to inspire strategy and innovation
- Demonstrate leadership in working with other departments; proactively identify potential issues and manage projects to deliver successful results
- Other tasks as assigned from time to time by the VP of R&D

- Attendance, promptness, personal hygiene
- Effective and positive interaction with all staff
- On time delivery of test results, product changes and launches
- Create cost-effective products
- Pre-emptively identify product/related issues
- Demonstrate leadership in liaising with various Baker Street departments and Director of Product & Process Development
Pre-requisite Qualifications (knowledge, skills, attributes, accreditations, training, experience):
- Fluent oral and written English
- Minimum 2-3 years’ experience in the baking industry
- Ability to problem solve and grasp new concepts quickly
- Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize activities, and meet quality expectations
- Ability to follow given standard operation procedures and communicate recommended changes through proper channels
- Knowledge of Health & Safety, GMP, and HACCP requirements
- Knowledge of Baking equipment, ingredients, and recipes
- Strong mathematical and computer skills
- Good interpersonal skills: able to liaise with various business areas to facilitate product development and continuous improvement (CI)
Pay: $20.00-$22.00 per hour
