Wetaskiwin has an exciting opportunity for a Registered Nurse to join the Day Surgery and Endoscopy team. Our busy operating room features three theatres providing general, gynecological and ophthalmologic surgeries, along with an established endoscopy program. As our program expands with the Alberta Surgical Initiative, the Registered Nurse reports to the Operating Room Manager and provides perioperative care in accordance with College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) and Canadian Standards Association (CSA) standards. The successful candidate provides safe, compassionate, evidence-informed nursing care to patients undergoing ambulatory surgery and endoscopic procedures requiring procedural sedation. Responsibilities include conducting pre-procedure and pre-operative assessments, developing individualized care plans, administering and monitoring procedural sedation, recognizing and responding to complications, and collaborating with patients, families, physicians and the interdisciplinary team. The RN assists physicians during diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy by preparing equipment, anticipating procedural needs, managing specimens and completing accurate documentation. Additional responsibilities include pre-operative preparation, patient education, post-anesthetic and post-sedation recovery, pain management, discharge planning and evaluation of discharge readiness. The role promotes patient safety through infection prevention and control, quality improvement, equipment safety, incident reporting and adherence to professional standards while demonstrating strong assessment, communication, teamwork, leadership, emergency response and electronic documentation skills

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $40.76 to $55.79 per hour. Upon obtaining a full practice permit, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii), as applicable.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. Additional Required Qualifications:
Healthcare Provider BLS, ACLS, Procedural Sedation competency, IV therapy competency, airway management competency, cardiac rhythm interpretation competency, mandatory AHS training including IPC, WHMIS and Safe Patient Handling.
Preferred Qualifications:
CNA certification in Gastroenterology, Perioperative Nursing or related specialty; PACU education; moderate sedation training; recent Endoscopy, PACU, Day Surgery, Critical Care or Emergency experience.
