Position Overview
Mitchell Metal Recycling is seeking a motivated and hands-on Non-Ferrous Buyer to join our Operations team. This position is responsible for purchasing non-ferrous materials, assisting customers, identifying and grading metals, maintaining inventory quality, and supporting the day-to-day operations of the yard.
The successful candidate will be based primarily at our Maple Ridge location but must be flexible to support operations at our Richmond and Prince George facilities as business needs require.
Key Responsibilities
- Purchase non-ferrous scrap materials while providing excellent customer service.
- Verify material weights and accurately identify, classify, and grade non-ferrous metals.
- Negotiate pricing within company guidelines while maintaining company margins.
- Sort, upgrade, and segregate non-ferrous materials to maximize value and prevent contamination.
- Maintain organized inventory and communicate available material for sale.
- Operate forklifts, skid steers, and other yard equipment safely and efficiently (as required).
- Perform daily equipment inspections, basic preventive maintenance, and keep assigned equipment clean and in good working condition.
- Assist with inventory control, yard organization, and general operational duties.
- Follow all company safety policies and maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment.
- Support other Mitchell Metal Recycling locations when operational needs require.
Requirements
- Previous experience purchasing or processing non-ferrous scrap metals is strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of non-ferrous metal identification and grading- an asset
- Previous forklift and/or skid steer operating experience is considered a strong asset.
- Comfortable working in an outdoor industrial environment around heavy machinery, dust, and changing weather conditions.
- Physically capable of lifting, sorting, and handling metal materials throughout the day.
- Excellent customer service, communication, and negotiation skills.
- Self-motivated, reliable, and able to work independently.
- Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence and reliable personal vehicle are required.
- Must be willing to travel and work between our Maple Ridge, Richmond, and Prince George locations as operational needs require. Maple Ridge will be your primary work location.
- When travel to Prince George is required, all travel, accommodation, and related business expenses will be covered by the company.
Position Details
- Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM – Saturday 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM (Hours may vary depending on the location)
- Overtime: Optional overtime opportunities available
