The Role
Reporting to the Cigar Lake Surface Freeze Drilling General Supervisor, you will be responsible for leading a large-scale directional surface freeze drilling program from design of collar and hole to hole completion and as built. You will oversee and supervise a safe working environment to ensure that the freeze drilling tasks are delivered meeting safety, environment, radiation, and department targets and that these goals are achieved in accordance with codes, regulatory commitments and corporate policies.
In this role, you will:
- Conduct regular quality control inspections to ensure work meets specifications and standards.
- Oversight and interaction with drill contractor, and coordination to ensure the program is progressing as planned including oversight of directional drilling steering input to ensure drill targets are hit so that redrills, extra holes, and areas of diversion causing longer freeze time which impact the production schedule are minimized.
- Quickly troubleshoot and solution all aspects of safety, environment and drilling/completion in the field to ensure cycle time and schedule compliance
- Assist in sourcing and expediting parts, materials, and technologies to ensure drilling efficiency is optimized and remains on track to meet all safety, regulatory, cost and schedule targets.
- Reconciliation of contract costs and invoices, communicate with contactor for materials planning. Budget development, update and monitoring to ensure costs are accurately accounted for and controlled.
- Ability to build strong relationships with clients, team members and various site departments.
Required:
- bachelor’s degree in geological, geotechnical or mine engineering or geology or relevant work experience;
- five years’ experience in the mining industry, particularly in diamond drilling, geological technician, hole completions or project lead roles;
- equivalent combination of education and work experience considered;
- professional Engineer (P. Eng) or professional Geoscientist (P. Geo) designation;
- a strong understanding of surface drilling environment and techniques including drilling additives and cements, and drilling in adverse geological conditions;
- demonstrated leadership experience managing technical teams and complex projects;
- strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills; and
- work a rotational schedule and commute to site by aircraft.
Recommended:
- experience with SAP, SIGGA, Bentley, or similar software;
- proficient in Microsoft Office/MS365 software;
- ability to design in VULCAN 3D modelling Software; and
- familiarity with schematics and technical specifications related to Diamond Drilling in various environments.
