We are currently looking to add an Accounting Clerk to our fantastic team! As an Accounting Clerk, you will be responsible for a variety of accounting duties, all of which will be processed in a timely and accurate manner, in accordance with defined operating procedures. Working closely with the Accountant, the Accounting Assistant is responsible for processing accounts payable and accounts receivable to Trial Balance, bank deposits and related postings, bills and adjustments to ledgers; maintaining accounting records; and providing administrative support to the Accountant.
Roles and Responsibilities:
1) Trust
- Ensure all Trust transactions involving deposits and cheques are posted to the Trust ledgers by the end of the day
- Prepare Trust deposits daily unless demand requires greater frequency, including transactions paid via credit or debit card
- Ensure sufficient Trust funds are on deposit and are of a nature to fulfill Trust cheque requests
- Prepare Trust cheques twice daily, mid-morning and mid-afternoon or on demand as necessary
2) Client Disbursements
- Post disbursements such as BC Online and myLTSA daily
- Verify accuracy of cheque requests and process twice daily (mid-morning and mid-afternoon) or more as required
3) Accounts Receivable
- Verify accuracy of receipts and post payments received daily via cash, cheque or debit/credit
- Prepare bank deposits and coordinate with delivery person daily
- Prepare accounts receivable statements on the first day of the new month and provide to Reception for mailing and distribution
- Provide support for client account posting from time to time.
4) Accounts Payable
- Verify and post accounts payable invoices daily
- Reconcile supplier statements to ledger and pay once per month on established date unless otherwise required
5) Processing bills and adjustment to ledgers
- Post bills per established policies and procedures
- Post routine adjustments to ledgers as required
6) Accounting records
- File all records of original entry in a timely manner
- Maintain archive of records, rotating annually
7) Administrative Support
- Keep any cash on-site in safe
- Respond to queries of a basic nature regarding policy and procedures from staff
Skills and Experience
Familiarity with bookkeeping and basic accounting procedures
3-5 years of accounting/bookkeeping experience
Competency in MS Office, databases and accounting software
Accuracy and attention to detail
Aptitude for numbers
Ability to perform filing and record keeping tasks
Data entry and word processing skills
Bookkeeping Certificate an asset
Familiarity with Law Society of BC’s Trust accounting rules an asset
Salary - $44,000-$60,000
