Nipissing University Student Union
The Nipissing University Student Union (NUSU) represents the interests of approximately 6,000 full and part-time undergraduate and graduate students at Nipissing University. NUSU is a separate, registered not-for-profit organization that is distinct from but strongly affiliated with Nipissing University. NUSU organizes and delivers a range of services, events, clubs, activities, campaigns and initiatives on behalf of the Nipissing University student population. Position Overview
We will be hiring three Student Centre Administrator positions. They will be responsible for providing front desk services and administrative support as directed. They will respond to all inquiries made in person, by email or by telephone and assist with the delivery of food pantry services. They will also provide assistance in the research, creation, coordination and implementation of NUSU events, campaigns and initiatives. This involves creating event proposals, being proactive and self-motivated in completing tasks, and maintaining a working relationship with various groups both on and off campus. The SCAs are required to support the planning and delivery of services, events, clubs, activities, campaigns, initiatives, and social media projects specific to the needs of students at Nipissing University. The ideal candidates will have strong communication skills and a willingness to learn the various aspects of this role. These individuals will report directly to the Operations Manager.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Greeting visitors coming into the office, assessing their needs, and directing them to the appropriate department/Executive;
- Taking and delivering messages in a timely and accurate manner;
- Helping to organize and maintain the student food pantry;
- Assisting with event planning and prep;
- Receiving and being accountable for cash & card transactions that occur at the front desk, as directed;
- Performing basic administrative duties such as photocopying and correspondence;
- Acquiring student feedback through polls and social interactions;
- May be required to coordinate with other organizations and institutions, such as Nipissing University, when needed;
- Maintaining a working relationship with community partners and university departments;
- Setting up and tearing down events both on and off campus;
- Assisting with overseeing events on the day of, including problem-solving, welcoming guests, directing event set-up, communicating with volunteers, and organizing vendors;
- Creating social media content, including Instagram stories and TikToks;
- Assisting with student orientation and retention planning;
- Researching social media, events, apps/services, and other activities that other organizations and businesses have implemented;
- Giving tours of the NUSU Student Centre;
- Occasionally lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling or otherwise moving objects weighing up to 50lbs or more with assistance;
- Assisting with fulfilling other duties and goals, and performing other miscellaneous duties as assigned; and,
- Adhere to corporate policies and procedures, including Health and Safety Standards.
Qualifications and Skills
- Must be a current Nipissing University student at the time of application;
- Competent in the use of the G-Suite, as well as office equipment such as computers, printers, copiers, etc.;
- Ability to perform assigned duties with minimal supervision;
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines;
- Effective organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills; and,
- Previous experience in an administrative / customer service role is considered an asset.
