Line Locating Assistant – Squamish Region
Apex Geomatics is seeking a motivated Line Locating Assistant to join our growing field operations in the Squamish, BC region.
This is an excellent entry-level opportunity for someone interested in building a career in line locating, surveying, and geomatics. Previous technical experience is not required. We are looking for someone who brings a strong work ethic, reliability, a commitment to safety, and a willingness to learn.
Working alongside experienced Line Locators, you will receive hands-on field experience and mentorship while developing practical skills in an in-demand technical field.
What You’ll Do
As a Line Locating Assistant, you will support our experienced field personnel with daily utility locating activities. Your responsibilities will include:
- Assist with field locating activities and daily field operations
- Place stakes, pin flags, and other utility markings
- Assist with marking buried utilities using industry-standard colour identification
- Carry, organize, and maintain field tools and equipment
- Take basic field notes, photographs, and sketches as directed
- Assist with spotting, digging, site preparation, and other field support activities
- Maintain clean and organized vehicles, tools, and equipment
- Participate in daily safety meetings and follow Apex safety procedures
- Work collaboratively with field crews and represent Apex professionally on site
What You Bring
You’ll be a strong fit if you have:
- A strong work ethic and willingness to learn
- The ability and willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and rugged terrain
- The physical capability to walk extended distances, carry field equipment, and perform hands-on field tasks
- A reliable and punctual approach to work
- A strong commitment to workplace safety
- A valid Class 5 driver’s licence is preferred
- Previous experience in construction, general labour, surveying, or line locating is an asset, but not required
- Pipeline Construction Safety Training (PCST), Ground Disturbance 201, and other applicable safety certifications are considered assets
Working Conditions
This is a hands-on field position that may involve:
- Outdoor work in changing weather conditions
- Rugged and uneven terrain
- Extended workdays depending on operational requirements
- Remote or changing work locations
- Physically demanding field activities
Candidates should be comfortable working in an active field environment and interested in developing practical technical skills.
