Cook
About Night Owl
Night Owl Kitchen + Bar is one of British Columbia's fastest-growing hospitality brands. In under a year, we have opened five locations across the Lower Mainland, and we are not slowing down. Our reputation is built on premium locations, standout cocktails, and food that keeps guests coming back, all delivered with a consistently high level of service from location to location.
Our kitchen is where that reputation is earned. If you take pride in food made right every single time, a clean and organized station, and quality that keeps guests coming back, you will fit right in here.
The Role
We are looking for an experienced Cook to prepare and plate our menu to Night Owl recipes and brand standard, run a clean and efficient station, and deliver the food quality our guests expect every time. This is a back-of-house role at the heart of the guest experience. Every plate you send out reflects the standard we hold across all of our locations.
This is a role for someone who takes the craft seriously, moves with speed and precision, and keeps quality tight even when the kitchen is slammed. In return, you join a growing brand where great work gets noticed and there is real room to move up.
What You'll Own
Food Quality and Consistency
- Prepare and cook every item to Night Owl recipes and brand standard, with no shortcuts on quality, portioning, or presentation.
- Know our menu inside and out, including ingredients, prep methods, and plating for each dish.
- Deliver the same high-quality plate every time, whether it is the first ticket of the night or the hundredth.
Speed and Execution
- Work with speed and accuracy through high-volume service without dropping quality.
- Keep tickets, timing, and plating tight so food goes out hot, fresh, and on time.
- Coordinate closely with the rest of the kitchen and the floor to keep the whole experience seamless.
Station and Kitchen Operations
- Set up, run, and break down your station cleanly and efficiently before, during, and after every shift.
- Keep the kitchen clean, organized, and to standard at all times.
- Maintain and care for equipment, and report any issues quickly.
Food Safety and Sanitation
- Follow all food safety, health, and sanitation regulations, including proper storage, labelling, and temperature control, with no exceptions.
- Handle, prep, and store food in line with FOODSAFE standards and Night Owl policy at all times.
- Keep your station and the wider kitchen clean and compliant throughout service.
Inventory and Prep
- Track inventory closely, including counts, stock levels, restocking, and prep, so the kitchen never runs short during service and waste is kept in check.
- Complete prep accurately and to spec so the line is ready before service starts.
- Use product efficiently and follow portioning standards to control food cost.
Standards and Teamwork
- Help protect and grow our brand reputation through consistent, high-quality food.
- Work as part of a tight kitchen team, supporting other stations when needed.
- Take direction, give it where needed, and hold yourself and the line to a high standard.
Who We're Looking For
- Previous cooking experience, ideally in a busy or elevated kitchen or restaurant.
- Solid knowledge of prep, cooking techniques, and plating, with the ability to learn our menu quickly.
- FOODSAFE certification (or willing to obtain it before starting).
- Fast, accurate, and calm under pressure during high-volume service.
- Clean, organized, and disciplined about food safety and station standards.
- A team player who communicates well and supports the line.
- Driven, respectful, and always willing to learn and improve.
