Overview
For a newly created children’s dancewear brand we are seeking a freelance pattern maker, sample sewer and seamstress to help bring original designs to life.
The ideal candidate has experience creating dancewear, gymnastics apparel, activewear, swimwear, or stretch garments and can work from images to create production-ready patterns and samples and produce garments in various sizes.
This is a freelance, project-based opportunity with the potential for ongoing work.
Responsibilities
- Review design sketches and reference images
- Create original patterns for children’s dancewear
- Recommend construction methods and fabric choices
- Produce fit samples and revisions
- Grade patterns into multiple children’s sizes
- Create production-ready pattern files
- Assist with fabric consumption estimates
- Support small-batch production if desired
Garment Types
Examples include:
- Dance shorts
- Crop tops
- Dance bras/camisoles
- Leotards
- Two-piece dancewear sets
- Practice wear
- Competition warm-up apparel
Requirements
- Experience working with stretch fabrics such as nylon/spandex and polyester/spandex
- Knowledge of dancewear, gymnastics apparel, activewear, or swimwear construction
- Ability to create accurate patterns and sizing specifications
- Ability to sew professional samples
- Strong attention to detail
- Located in the GTA preferred, although remote candidates will be considered
Ownership & Intellectual Property
This is a work-for-hire engagement.
The successful candidate agrees that:
- All designs, patterns, grading, specifications, and technical documents created for this project become the exclusive property of the client.
- The client retains full ownership of all intellectual property.
- The client may manufacture the garments with any factory or production partner of their choosing.
- The contractor may not sell, reproduce, or distribute the patterns or designs without written permission.
Compensation
