We are growing and looking for a seasoned finance professional to join our team in a dual-capacity role that combines fractional CFO services for select public company clients with hands-on accounting and tax work for our private company portfolio.
The Opportunity
This is a unique role suited for an experienced CPA professional who thrives in a multi-client environment and enjoys both strategic financial leadership and technical accounting work. You will act as an outsourced/part-time CFO for a number of public company clients while also supporting private company engagements through year-end file preparation and tax compliance.
Duties
Fractional CFO Services (Public Companies)
- Serve as part-time CFO for select publicly listed clients, providing executive-level financial oversight and strategic guidance
- Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with IFRS
- MD&A preparation, and regulatory disclosure requirements
- Liaise with external auditors, legal counsel, and board/audit committees on behalf of clients
- Monitor cash flow, budgeting, and forecasting; present financial results to management and boards
- Ensure compliance with applicable securities regulations and public company reporting obligations
- Support capital markets activities including private placements, debt financings, and investor relations as required
Private Company Accounting & Tax
- Prepare year-end working paper files using CaseWare Working Papers and CaseWare Connector
- Compile and review financial statements for private corporations in accordance with ASPE
- Prepare corporate income tax returns (T2) and related schedules using Tax Prep
- Complete personal income tax returns (T1) for business owners and individuals as needed
- Manage full-cycle accounting for clients using QuickBooks Online, including bookkeeping review and reconciliations
- Prepare and file HST/GST returns on behalf of clients; advise on input tax credits and compliance
- Administer payroll compliance, including T4 reconciliations, PD7A remittances, and year-end payroll filings
- Respond to CRA correspondence and represent clients in routine inquiries
Required Qualifications
- CPA designation (CA, CGA, or CMA legacy designation accepted) — required
- Minimum 3 - 5 years of progressive experience in public practice
- Strong working knowledge of IFRS and public company financial reporting requirements
- Proficiency in CaseWare Working Papers and CaseWare Connector — required
- Proficiency in QuickBooks Online — required
- Experience preparing T2 corporate income tax returns and T1 personal income tax returns
- Solid understanding of HST/GST compliance and filing obligations
- Knowledge of payroll compliance in Ontario, including ROE preparation and CRA remittances
- Strong understanding of Canadian tax legislation and CRA filing deadlines
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to present financial information to non-financial stakeholders
Preferred / Nice-to-Have Qualifications
- Experience with Tax Cycle tax preparation software
- Familiarity with CCH iFirm practice management platform
- Experience with SEDAR public filings and securities regulatory compliance
- Previous experience in a multi-client public accounting firm environment
- Experience with flow-through shares, private placements, or resource company accounting
- Knowledge of Quebec tax compliance (Revenu Québec filings)
Although this position is advertised as a full time opportunity, for the right candidate we would also consider a part time opportunity.
Pay: $80,000.00-$100,000.00 per year
