Under the direct supervision of the Plant Manager, the incumbent will be able to provide maintenance and repair, as well as, electrical work support to the plant operations. The incumbent will primarily troubleshoot and correct mechanical, hydraulic, or pneumatic problems with production equipment. The Maintenance Mechanic is also responsible for repairing malfunctioning equipment, such as motors, pumps, valves, air and liquid piping, controls, ovens, and other machines.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Working in a safe, hygienic manner at all times, by following established safety, health, sanitation and housekeeping policies and procedures.
- Troubleshooting electro-mechanical production equipment in order to keep our production lines running at peak efficiency.
- Responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the company’s production equipment, material handling equipment and building infrastructure.
- Inspect/removing/replace/repair of belts, chains, small motors and gearboxes, conveyors, pneumatic and hydraulic valves and cylinders.
- Maintain a maintenance log book.
- Answer all calls for service and perform other duties as assigned and required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience as a mechanic working in a food plant.
- Electrical work experience required
- Hands-on experience troubleshooting packaging, production, and material handling equipment.
- Proficiency in all hand tools and power tools, including cutting, grinding, and brazing. Welding skills are an asset.
- Capable of basic electrical troubleshooting using a multi-meter.
- Knowledge of appropriate health & safety and environmental regulations required.
- Reading, writing, and English proficiency needed to communicate with co-workers, parts suppliers, and contractors.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Ability to work independently and under minimal supervision.
- Required to work on the ground under machinery, and work in coolers or freezers.
- Flexibility to work extra hours or weekends if needed.
