Job Purpose: The Manufacturing Technician is responsible for setting up and operating precision steel manufacturing machines such as lathes, milling machines, drilling machines and grinders to rough and finish custom parts for Molds; contribute to process development and improvement.

Responsibilities:
- Development and refinement of Manufacturing Procedures
- Responsible for set up and operation of precision steel manufacturing machines such as lathes, milling machines, drilling machines and grinders to rough and finish custom parts for Molds.
- Understand information flow across the value stream.
- Track/input daily performance metrics for machine usage and production.
- Follow ‘one piece flow’ best practices as best as possible to reduce customer lead time.
- Performance of assembly function testing.
- Meet identified production targets, deadlines and shift expectations.
- Clearly communicate, processes and risks, escalating to appropriate individuals as needed.
- Source and build new tooling given manufacturing process requirements; comfortable establishing cutting parameters on new tools and conducting testing & documentation of results.
- Facilitates the development of manufacturing processes linked to GD&T requirements through an advanced knowledge of GD&T drawings.
- Apply logic, methods and troubleshooting practices across an array of projects and situations; adjusts necessary processes (in conjunction with Quality/ME) to enhance processes based upon data and highlight additional potential consequences or implications (based on geometrics and metrology) in order to work towards corrective actions in the future.
- Working in a highly automated environment
- Inspect parts to finish dimensions according to control plans and processes.
- Understand the processes and logic behind automation for an array of processes.
- Interpret datum structures, value stream [VS]-specific callouts, data set/trends/SPCs and are familiar with analytical tools (e.g., Overall Equipment Performance [OEE], Total Equipment Effectiveness Performance [TEEP], etc).
- Demonstrate understanding of the various machine tool controllers.
- Write and edit cutting programs as required (rework/fixturing), and troubleshoot programs, as required.
- Fully run, operate and troubleshoot Siemens, Okuma and Fanuc tools, applying ISO codes and offsetting specific controllers as necessary. Facilitate in the identification and troubleshooting process.
- Run, operate, troubleshoot and share knowledge of peripheral controllers (Zoller, Fanuc Robot, Autonomous Guided Vehicles, Line Automation) with other team members to support their activities.
- Calibrate CMM and write/edit corresponding programs.
- Focus on continuous improvement and troubleshooting
- Determine root cause analysis/troubleshoot and problem solve errors on quality.
- Determine and clearly communicate resolution and prevention tactics for risks and issues to the broader team.
- Provide consistent feedback on existing processes.
- Form tangible hypotheses based on a number of variables and take the necessary corrective action to address the issue.
- Enhances processes by providing input into and implementing operational changes that incorporate Lean principles.
- Facilitate troubleshooting of machinery for level 3 and 4 Manufacturing Technicians.
- Identify continuous improvement initiatives and drives the implementation that will enable the continuous, fast-paced learning required to maintain the closed-loop feedback mechanism.
- Follow Environmental Health and Safety [EH&S] guidelines and standards in all activities, suggesting improvements when possible.
- Focus on efficiency through knowledge sharing
- Act on processes determined by cell management system.
- Present ideas to communicate process information and potential risks, proposing ideas to appropriate individuals as needed.
- Work with/mentor other technicians to enhance their capability to deliver in a fast-paced environment (e.g., increase speed of execution for future actions to increase cell output).
- Create opportunities for collaboration and open communication across team members, and across geographies (i.e., increase communication across plants globally)
- Build training plans, and deliver training to teams across the business, as required (leads apprenticeship program in Lux)
Education / Experience / Qualifications
- College diploma or completion of certified apprenticeship program an asset
- 6 years + of CNC Machining experience required
- Previous work experience using hand tools and measuring tools.
- Strong team player with demonstrated ability to consistently maintain high productivity levels.
- Solid understanding of proper Health and Safety workplace practices and Husky EH&S guidelines
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 20lbs independently
- Ability to operate and deliver under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Able to apply milling and turning techniques across an array of projects, proposing areas for improvement and troubleshooting as required to support cell operations.
- Able to apply knowledge of interaction between milling and turning to develop new processes and programming robot to perform changes.
- Able to apply lasering, polishing and grinding techniques across an array of projects, proposing areas for improvement and troubleshooting as required to support cell operations.
- Advanced understanding of tooling types, interface of holder to tool, interface of holder to machine, cutting nomenclature, coolant delivery to cutting edge and read tool sheets.
- Demonstrates an advanced understanding of the downstream/upstream impacts of data flows and implications of issues or modifications within cells (e.g., automation functionality, tech safety, diagnosing cells, controllers, PLCS., etc.).
- Understanding of common GD&T codes (rapid, feed, optional stop, arcs, abs/inc), model/non-modal codes, machine kinematics, and cutter geometry & compensations.
- Understand and demonstrate general metrology & inspection practices and use basic tools when needed.
- Understands cell parameters set forth by quality/automation team and how data set/trends/SPCs flow from E2E; understands the rationale behind standard operating procedures across all cells.
- Understanding of ISO (NC Coding) / G-coding an asset.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and activities, prioritizing according to requirements. Follow and conduct standard of work with speed and ease.
- Understands, writes and speaks basic and technical English.
Working Conditions
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 20lbs independently * Standing for prolonged period of time on shop floor * Use of hands/fingers with tools and use of Husky machinery on shop floor with exposure to loud noise for an extended period of time * Shop floor environment with forklift machinery, movement of supplies and parts on moving carts– PPE required at all times (ear plugs, safety glasses, steel toe safety shoes, hard hats if required)
