We're seeking a dependable and experienced Maintenance Technician to perform general maintenance and repair work at commercial and institutional properties.
The successful candidate will complete a variety of interior and exterior maintenance tasks. This position requires someone who is trustworthy, safety-conscious, professional, and able to work independently while respecting occupied work environments and client confidentiality.
Responsibilities
- Perform general building maintenance and repairs.
- Complete minor carpentry, drywall, painting, and finishing work.
- Repair or replace doors, locks, hinges, shelving, trim, hardware, and fixtures.
- Complete minor plumbing repairs within the employee’s qualifications and legal scope.
- Assist with minor electrical maintenance where legally permitted.
- Inspect facilities and identify maintenance or safety concerns.
- Perform exterior maintenance, including fence, gate, and building repairs.
- Assemble, install, and repair furniture, equipment, and fixtures.
- Safely use hand tools, power tools, ladders, and maintenance equipment.
- Maintain clean, safe, and organized work areas.
- Minimize disruption to employees, visitors, and regular operations at client locations.
- Communicate clearly with the Kaval Contracting supervisor and authorized client representatives.
- Document completed work and report additional repairs or materials required.
- Follow WorkSafeBC requirements, site safety procedures, and company policies.
- Perform other general maintenance duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in building maintenance, construction, renovations, or a related trade.
- General knowledge of carpentry, drywall, painting, plumbing, and basic repairs.
- Ability to safely operate hand tools and power tools.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and complete assigned tasks efficiently.
- Dependable, punctual, and professional.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to perform physical work, including lifting, bending, climbing ladders, and working indoors or outdoors.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s licence and reliable transportation.
- Ability to travel between job sites when required.
- Legally entitled to work in Canada.

- Wear appropriate work clothing and personal protective equipment.
- Maintain respectful and professional conduct at all times.
- Refrain from smoking, vaping, alcohol, or drug use at client locations or during working hours.
Assets
- Trade certification or relevant technical training.
- Experience performing maintenance in commercial, institutional, or public buildings.
- First Aid certification.
- WHMIS training.
- Fall protection, ladder safety, or other relevant safety training.
- Experience reading work orders, plans, or maintenance instructions.
Pay: $20.00-$35.00 per hour
