Communications Strategist
Position Summary:
The Communications Strategist leads, support and manages internal and external communications for the Hospital’s executive team, with a strong external focus. This role is a trusted advisor to the executive team and responsible for shaping messaging across external audiences including government officials, community partners and the broader public. This job vacancy is to fill a new position.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and lead strategic communication plans aligned with organizational goals and projects
- Lead and manage all communication materials for the Hospital’s strategic projects
- Under the direction of the Director, act as the primary communications partner to the executive team, delivering Hospital strategy into clear, compelling narratives
- Plan and coordinate public and media events to enhance organizational visibility and engagement
- Prepare and draft speaking notes, keynote speeches, presentations, media releases, and promotional, announcements, briefing materials for the executive team
- Collaborate and foster positive stakeholder relationship to communicate the hospitals vision and strategic direction
- Collaborate with stakeholders to create and distribute electronic external newsletters and campaign materials
- Develop targeted content posts across various social media channels on the executive team’s behalf, ensuring a strong, authentic and strategic digital presence
- Track, measure and evaluate the Hospital’s digital presence and impact of media strategies
- Ensure quality and compliance with industry, ministry, and internal standards, while maintaining communication quality, brand consistency, and obtaining required approvals
- Proactively identify reputational risks and develop messaging to address sensitive and/or complex matters
- Assist with crisis communication planning and emerging issue management
- Provide photography, videography, and editing support for events and storytelling
The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications/experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, or similar discipline
- Minimum 5 years of experience in strategic communications or marketing
- Experience in healthcare or non-profit experience an asset
- Must have experience preparing communication and materials at an executive level
- Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills
- Proficient with digital tools: Adobe Creative Suite, WordPress, SharePoint, Meltwater, Campaign Monitor, Hootsuite, Microsoft Office, and Canva
- Strong understanding of digital communications, SEO/SEM, social media strategy, and analytics
- Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and collaborate across teams
- Strong judgment, professionalism, attention to detail, and commitment to confidentiality
- Skilled in photography, videography, and multimedia editing
- Ability to attend events outside of business hours as required
