Senior IT Network Administrator Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Senior IT Network Administrator to design, implement, maintain, and secure the organization’s network infrastructure. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring high availability, performance, reliability, and security across LAN, WAN, wireless, cloud, and remote-access environments.
The Senior IT Network Administrator will troubleshoot complex network issues, lead infrastructure projects, monitor network performance, implement security controls, and provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior IT staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot enterprise LAN/WAN network infrastructure.
- Administer and support routers, switches, firewalls, wireless networks, VPNs, and network monitoring systems.
- Manage network security, including firewall policies, access controls, segmentation, IDS/IPS, and secure remote access.
- Monitor network performance, availability, capacity, and security using appropriate monitoring and management tools.
- Diagnose and resolve complex network connectivity, routing, switching, DNS, DHCP, and performance issues.
- Configure and maintain VLANs, routing protocols, VPNs, QoS, NAT, and network access controls.
- Plan and execute network upgrades, migrations, expansions, and infrastructure improvement projects.
- Maintain network documentation, diagrams, configurations, procedures, and disaster-recovery documentation.
- Implement network redundancy, high availability, backup connectivity, and disaster-recovery solutions.
- Collaborate with cybersecurity, systems, cloud, application, and help-desk teams to resolve infrastructure issues.
- Support cloud networking environments such as Microsoft Azure and/or AWS.
- Manage network-related vendors, service providers, contracts, and technical escalations.
- Conduct capacity planning and recommend improvements to network architecture and technology.
- Participate in incident response, root-cause analysis, and post-incident reviews.
- Establish and maintain network standards, policies, and best practices.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to network administrators and other IT staff.
- Participate in an on-call or after-hours support rotation when required.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in network administration or network engineering.
- Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, routing, switching, NAT, VPN, and network security.
- Hands-on experience with enterprise routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless infrastructure.
- Experience with network monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
- Strong knowledge of network security principles and best practices.
- Experience with Windows and/or Linux server environments.
- Experience supporting hybrid on-premises and cloud network infrastructure.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities independently.
Preferred Qualifications
- CCNA, CCNP, Network+, Security+, or equivalent certifications.
- Experience with Cisco, Fortinet, Palo Alto, Aruba, Juniper, or similar enterprise technologies.
- Experience with Microsoft Azure and/or AWS networking.
- Knowledge of SD-WAN, SDN, NAC, Zero Trust, and network automation.
- Experience with PowerShell, Python, Ansible, or other network automation technologies.
- Experience with ITIL-based service management.
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Networking, or a related field.
