Quality Engineering Specialist
The Quality Engineering Specialist is responsible for Review of Non-Conformances and Corrective Action Reports, supporting and completing First Article Inspection Reports, assisting and performing internal audits, review and submission of Material Declarations for material compliance, working towards achieving company key performance metrics, managing and tracking Safety Data Sheets for incoming materials, and assisting with other defined duties and other projects within the scope of the Quality Engineering team as required.
What does a Quality Engineering Specialist do? (including but are not limited to):
Problem Solving and Quality Control
- Create, complete, and track Non-Conformance and Corrective Action Reports within a collaborative team environment.
- Identify and communicate non-conformance immediately to prevent defective materials from moving through production.
- Utilize formal problem-solving tools to find root causes, determine part dispositions, and establish immediate containment actions.
- Design and put in place long-term corrective actions to prevent quality issues and verify effectiveness.
- Identify long-term quality improvement actions that reduce manufacturing costs and help the site meet customer requirements.
First Article Inspection (FAI)
- Review and create technical support documents to complete full First Article Inspection Reports.
- Review material test reports and trace conformance certificates back to original suppliers.
- Evaluate inspection test reports, dimensional inspection sheets, and specific customer quality clauses for accuracy.
- Complete specialized customer reports, submit them for approval, and act as the main point of contact for quality questions.
- Work closely with Design Engineering and the Marketing/Sales teams to resolve any blueprint or contract discrepancies.
Quality Management System (QMS) and Internal Auditing
- Write, review, and update Procedures, Process Work Instructions, Forms and other supporting standardized documentation to keep workplace documentation accurate and up to date.
- Prepare and carry out internal audit plans based on directions from the QMS Manager and in coordination with the Quality Assurance Specialist.
- Document audit findings in clear reports and assign corrective actions to department owners.
- Monitor open audit findings and verify that departments effectively implement their corrective actions on time.
Support Material Compliance and Environmental Compliance Responses
- Review and complete full material declarations, certificates of conformance, and declaration letters regarding RoHS, REACH, PFAS, Conflict Minerals and FMD.
- Intake Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and evaluate the specific safety and handling requirements for all new chemicals brought on site.
- Update and maintain the digital SDS database in close partnership with Incoming Inspection, Process Engineering, Maintenance, and Health & Safety Committee.
KPIs and Operational Support
- Collect, analyze, and report on Key Performance Indicator (KPI) metrics for weekly and monthly management reviews.
- Draft formal request documentation to justify and purchase new capital equipment or quality tools.
- Create and place purchase orders (POs) to secure required testing parts, tools, and material supplies for the laboratory.
Additional Roles & Responsibilities:
- Understand customer, industry standards (i.e., Mil Spec, Aerospace, etc.) and internal QTP qualification test requirements.
- Facilitate purchase of industry standards and maintain all documents in the library.
- Monitor the Government-Industry Data Exchange Program (GIDEP) database for safety alerts and counterfeit parts, share warnings with other departments and submit formal quality reports back to GIDEP when major part failures occur.
- Develop jigs/fixtures for QA lab using SolidWorks and communicate with toolroom/vendor for procurement.
- Use 3D printer as and when necessary for QA lab and other departments.
- Instruct, mentor, and guide students and other personnel on as needed basis.
- Responding to root cause corrective actions for Corrective Action Reports (CARs) as a leading or participating team member
- Assist with Gauge Calibration, tracking, and internal, and external calibration sourcing.
- Continuous Improvement Projects as required to improve business capability and capacity.
- Other responsibilities as required to support the Quality Engineering Team.
What you bring to the table?
- 2-3 years full-time experience in similar role
- Diploma/Degree in Industrial, Manufacturing, Quality Engineering or equivalent combination of training and experience, preferably in an aerospace or electronics manufacturing/assembly environment
- Project Management skills
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities
- Computer skills and MS Office
- Self-motivation and excellent time management
- Knowledge of quality concepts and testing methods
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- A minimum of three years of experience with comprehensive Quality Management Systems - preferably with AS9100
- Internal auditing to AS9100D would be an asset
- Ability to assess quality performance and corrective action by analyzing metrics and data collected during auditing, corrective actions, and witnessing operations as required
- Knowledgeable in risk assessment and process capability
- Experience with part and process evaluation and qualification (APQP/PPAP) would be an asset
- Problem solving and quality improvement skills (IE, FMEA, 8D and DOE)
- Failure analysis experience
- Measurement and/or inspection experience
- Excellent analytical, strong verbal and written communication skills

The base salary range for this position is $70,000 – $85,000 annually. In determining the rate of pay, Amphenol considers a variety of nondiscriminatory factors, including but not limited to geographic location, relevant industry experience, qualifications, skills, and education. It would be rare for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for a given role. Base salary is one facet of Amphenol’s total rewards package which includes participation in our comprehensive benefits program with medical, dental, and vision benefits, vacation, sick leave, paid holidays, life insurance, short/long term disability, and membership in our Defined Contribution Pension Plan. Our employees are also eligible for participation in an annual incentive bonus program based on their position.
