Buffalo Rail & Infrastructure, in partnership with Torq Transloading, is constructing an industry leading rail-to-truck transload terminal in Taylor, British Columbia, located just 15 minutes from Fort Saint John. The facility will handle high-volume frac-sand logistics through automated, high-capacity storage domes and advanced truck-loading systems engineered for reliability, safety, and efficiency. Rail Operator (Switching & Unloading)
Location: Taylor, BC
Position Type: Full-time (48 hours each week), shift-based (4 on/3 off) (safety-sensitive).
Position Summary

We’re looking for a Rail Operator to support safe, efficient yard operations and keep our trains, trucks, and product flowing.
As a Rail Operator, you play a key role in yard switching, railcar movements, and frac sand/cargo transloading. Working closely with the Senior Rail Operator and Control Room, you’ll ensure smooth operations, schedule integrity, and compliance with Transport Canada, CROR, CN, and site standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate rail car mover (RCM / Loci) to spot and discharge railcars at unloaders and pit(s).
- Perform non-main track switching, coupling / uncoupling, hand brake applications, and safe groundwork.
- Support frac sand unloading - aligning gates, operating car door openers, verifying flow, and monitoring equipment.
- Conduct routine track checks, switch lubrication, and assist with snow / ice removal and vegetation control.
- Complete hazard assessments, job briefings, and follow CROR, CN, and site rules.
- Communicate with the Control Room and trucking operations to balance yard throughput.
- Perform equipment checks, report defects and assist with maintenance work orders.
- Other duties as required.
Qualifications
- 2–4 years of experience in rail yards, industrial switching, or terminal operations.
- Familiarity with Class 1 railway practices, non-main track operations, CROR and Transport Canada rail safety requirements.
- Hands-on experience with RCMs or locomotive / Trackmobile preferred.
- Background in the energy sector, bulk material handling or transload experience (oil & gas / frac sand) is considered an asset.
- Heavy equipment operation, forklift, AWP, skid steer or telehandler operation is considered an asset.
- eRailSafe qualified (or ability to obtain), Class 5 license.
- Capable of walking the rail line, climbing stairs and comfortable working outdoors.
