Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Store Manager to lead and oversee the daily operations of our Kibo Sushi + Market location. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, a unique blend of food service and retail management expertise, and exceptional customer service abilities. This role offers an exciting opportunity to manage a diverse team of kitchen and retail staff, optimize store performance, and contribute to the overall success of the Kibo brand. The Store Manager will be responsible for driving sales of both our fresh sushi offerings and market goods, ensuring excellent customer dining and shopping experiences, and maintaining strict operational and food safety excellence.
Duties
- Team Leadership: Lead and supervise front-of-house retail staff and back-of-house kitchen/sushi staff, including recruiting, training, and developing team members to ensure high performance and engagement.
- Daily Operations: Oversee daily store operations, including market merchandising, fresh food inventory management (fish, produce, and dry goods), purchasing, and minimizing food waste.
- Systems Management: Manage point-of-sale (POS) systems, third-party delivery platforms (e.g., UberEats, DoorDash), cash handling procedures, and bookkeeping to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Sales & Marketing: Implement local marketing initiatives and promotional displays for both sushi combos and market items to attract customers; utilize communication skills for effective team and customer interactions.
- Performance Monitoring: Conduct sales management activities such as setting sales goals, monitoring performance metrics for both the takeout/dine-in and retail market sections, and analyzing sales data to meet targets.
- Customer Experience: Handle customer inquiries, resolve complaints efficiently, and ensure a high level of customer satisfaction through excellent service and high-quality food presentation.
- Financial Control: Develop and manage budgets, control food and labor costs, and optimize store profitability through strategic planning.
- Administrative Tasks: Organize scheduling, oversee payroll processing, and ensure compliance with company policies and labor standards.
- Health & Safety Compliance: Maintain strict organizational standards by ensuring pristine cleanliness, rigorous adherence to food safety protocols, local health department regulations, and proper store presentation at all times.
- Staff Development: Conduct regular staff meetings for training and development sessions (including menu knowledge and customer service); foster a positive team environment focused on growth.
Skills
- Industry Experience: Proven experience in restaurant, grocery, or retail management with strong supervisory skills; previous experience managing a hybrid food-service/retail environment is highly preferred.
- Communication: Excellent communication skills with the ability to negotiate effectively with vendors and assist customers; bilingual or multilingual abilities (especially English/Korean or English/Japanese) are a strong asset.
- Food Safety: Valid Food Handler's Certification and a deep understanding of health and safety regulations regarding the handling of raw fish and fresh produce.
- Product Knowledge: Familiarity with Japanese cuisine, sushi preparation standards, and Asian market products/grocery items.
- Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in modern POS systems, tablet-based delivery apps, cash handling procedures, bookkeeping, and basic math skills for accurate financial transactions.
- Leadership: Demonstrated leadership capabilities with experience in cross-training front and back-of-house staff, team management, and conflict resolution.
- Operational Skills: Knowledge of food cost control, retail merchandising techniques, pricing strategies, and local marketing principles.
- Organization: Exceptional time management and organizational skills with the ability to multitask efficiently in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
- Customer Focus: Strong customer service orientation with excellent phone and counter etiquette; adept at building welcoming relationships with daily commuters, local residents, and team members alike.
