Accounts Payable & Payroll Specialist - Permanent - 19265
About the Opportunity
Our client, located in the west end of Ottawa, is seeking an experienced Accounts Payable & Payroll Specialist to join their finance team. This permanent opportunity is ideal for an accounting professional who enjoys a hands-on role combining full-cycle accounts payable, payroll administration, and month-end accounting responsibilities. Reporting to the Controller, you will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records while supporting day-to-day finance operations in a collaborative environment.
Duties include but are not limited to:
Process high-volume accounts payable invoices, including PO and non-PO invoices
Prepare cheque runs and electronic payments
Maintain vendor records and reconcile vendor accounts
Monitor cash requirements related to vendor payments
Respond to vendor inquiries in a professional and timely manner
Complete monthly HST reconciliations and prepare remittances
Record and reconcile intercompany transactions and journal entries
Perform general ledger and bank reconciliations
Reconcile corporate credit card statements
Review and process employee expense reports
Maintain fixed asset records and reconcile prepaid expenses
Support month-end and year-end accounting activities
Process Canadian payroll using Ceridian PowerPay (or similar payroll software)
Prepare payroll remittances and statutory filings including WSIB, EHT, T4s, ROEs, taxable benefits, and other government reporting
Reconcile payroll and employee benefit accounts for audit purposes
Assist with additional accounting and finance projects as required
About You
The successful candidate will have the following:
Post-secondary education in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field
Experience in full-cycle accounts payable and Canadian payroll processing
Working knowledge of payroll legislation, statutory remittances, and government reporting requirements
Experience performing reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end accounting
Experience working with ERP/accounting software and electronic payment platforms
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and the Microsoft Office Suite
Excellent organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
A collaborative approach and willingness to support the broader finance team
About the Job
Salary: $60,000 to $73,000 DOE
Hybrid environment, at least 2 days a week onsite
3 weeks’ vacation
RRSP with 3% employer matching
