Job Description
We are currently seeking a reliable and experienced Hino Driver to join our Shipping team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe and efficient delivery of prefabricated stairs and construction materials to job sites.
Working alongside a swamper/helper, the driver plays a critical role in ensuring materials are loaded, transported, and delivered safely and accurately. This is a physically active, outdoor role that requires strong attention to safety, organization, and teamwork in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
The Hino Driver reports directly to the Shipping Supervisor. Specific duties for this role will include but are not limited to;
· Operate a 1-ton Hino truck to deliver prefabricated stairs and construction materials to job sites
· Assist with loading and unloading materials alongside a swamper/helper
· Ensure all loads are properly secured for safe transport
· Complete Field Level Hazard Assessments (FLHA) prior to each task
· Take and submit delivery photos for documentation and verification
· Perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections
· Maintain accurate delivery logs and required paperwork
· Communicate effectively with dispatch, customers, and team members
· Follow all company safety policies and procedures
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
· Valid Class 5 driver’s license (minimum requirement)
· Minimum 3 years of commercial driving experience with a current driver’s abstract (required)
· Clean driving record
· Experience operating medium-duty trucks (construction delivery experience is an asset)
· Ability to lift and handle heavy materials
· Strong knowledge of safety practices, including FLHA completion
· Comfortable using a smartphone or tablet for documentation and photos
· Strong communication and time management skills
· Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
· High attention to detail and commitment to safety
· Team-oriented with a positive attitude
Working Conditions
The incumbent is required to work primarily in an outdoor yard environment and may be exposed to varying weather conditions including rain, snow, heat, and cold. The work environment involves exposure to dust, dirt, and other airborne particles common to construction and manufacturing settings. The role includes regular exposure to loud noise from forklifts, trucks, and other machinery.
The job may require the incumbent to walk on uneven ground; climb in and out of forklifts; carry or move materials; and work in close proximity to moving equipment and vehicles.
Physical Requirements
This is a physically demanding role involving lifting, securing loads, and navigating job sites. The position requires the ability to sit, stand, and climb in and out of equipment for extended periods. The incumbent must have sufficient visual acuity to safely operate vehicles and equipment, assess load positioning, and navigate a busy yard environment.
The role also involves physical activities such as lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling materials (up to 200 lbs) with team assistance where required). Regular bending, reaching, crouching, and walking on uneven outdoor surfaces is required.
The incumbent must be capable of working in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and snow, and must maintain a high level of awareness and alertness to ensure safety at all times.
